Hi this is my first posting to roots web as I found this thread when researching Joseph Edward Darlow b. 25 Jul 1915 in Dudley.  What stuck me from all the q&a is that the Loundes/Darlow families are a complex bunch.  However, I wonder if you could help?

I have just received Joseph Edward Darlow's birth certificate which gives his mother's name as Maria Darlow (formerly Loundes) and the father as George Darlow.  This throws my previous research completely out the window as I had considered Joseph Edward to be the son of Albert Edward Darlow (1887 - 1961) and Elizabeth Loundes (1885 - 1960).  The B cert completely turns this on its head!

I now suspect that George Darlow is the one b. 1916 in Dudley and d. 22 Aug 1916 in France.  That he was the son of George & Elizabeth Darlow and brother to the mysterious Aquila.  Similarly, that Maria Darlow (formley Loundes) is none other than Ann Maria Loundes, wife of George Lester and mother to Gertrude Lester (who married George's brother Joseph!).

I recall from previous postings that you mention that Maria spent time in the workhouse while her husband was living with his father.  You also implied that she left her husband to live with George Darlow and that their child had then been adopted.

So, can you confirm my suspicions about the complex relationships?  Is there any documentation to confirm this (I can't find a marriage between George Darlow and Ann Maria Lester-Loundes). Was Joseph Edward raised by his mother or adopted by other relatives?

Regards

Stevo
