Hi
Brilliant to be back ! Hope someone can help with the following.
James  Shakespeare  married Harriet Fenton at St Pauls Smethwick 1897
https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/5f725ef0f493fdb896376a9f/harriett-fenton-james-shakespeare-marriage-staffordshire-west-smethwick-1897-04-08?locale=en

They are together on the 1911 census with their children on the Oxford Road.
No sign 1901 (Should be Oldbury Road)or 1921.
Harriet is with her daughter in law Gertrude 79 Banbury Road 1939 and is a widow.
Possible death for James 1868-1938.

No sign of him before marriage or after 1914 when he is discharged from the Army.
He's not the son of John and Caroline but struggling to see an alternative.Needs to be father James Shakespeare born c 1868/1870.

Can any one track him down?

Dorset / Re: Benjamin Best c.1775 - 1862 Corfe Mullen
« on: Monday 02 March 26 13:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Having looked at the original registers on Ancestry ,the marriage was in 1803 at Castle Mullen.
The banns book for the parish is a mess and it is this from which the 1799 date comes.
It jumps 1799 to 1804 . The Benjamin and Ann  banns are on the page next to 1804 and  has no year on it I'd say they only read the banns once and it is the fault of the Vicar and his messy record keeping.

Going to his birth ,I think you are right and his baptism at Lychett Minster is correct.
And his middle name very much points to his father being Mr Best perhaps the Benjamin Best 1752 -7.11.1819 Lychett Minister.
Or  an earlier Benjamin Best having daughters Jane 28.10.1764 and Elizabeth 21.9.1766 at Lytchett Minister
I think you've cracked it !
Definitely the Lytchett Minister one.

ps 1788 Benjamin Best labourer LM was in the Militia list substituting James Hyman instead of himself for duty .
It looks like the older Benjamin was buried 8.1.1786 .
So father and son?

Worcestershire / Re: Edward Morris = Hannah Houghton m. 21 Oct 1782

Hello
Just a quick look but Charles Morris of Cleobury Mortimer born 1824 is the son of John and Maria Morris. ,wheelwright.

John married Maria James at Stockton on teme 13.7.1823 as a bachelor from Kimbolton.
She was buried at Cleobury Mortimer 24.3.1829 age 28 .
He would have had 2 sons Charles 5 and John 3 so would be keen to marry again.
So a second marriage seems likely and a marriage to Margaret Kirk at Kimbolton 5.8.1830  would fit as John is listed as a widower.

So  there are a John and Margaret having children baptised in Cleobury Mortimer after 1829 /1830
Josiah 6.9.1835 ,William 21.8.1842 ,and Robert 10.6.1851  .
He is a carpenter and mother's maiden name is Kirk.

They are on the censuses 1841-1871
John burried Wribbenhall 22.1.1877 no age given.
On the censuses 1841 born  1801 carpenter
                        1851- 1787 Burradon Shrops
                        1861 1797 Barraston Shrops
                        1871 1796 Boraston Shrops

It does seem to be the right father and mother  for Charles ,and Edward and Hannah's  son John Morris born 1788 could well be right.

I can send you a copy if you haven't got a subscription.
Pm me with your email address.

Ps the Patrick Delaney and Margaret Mansell wedding is on Ancestry .
I can do the same with that. They both sign so it might be nice to have their signature if you haven't already got it.

Hi
There are transcripts of RC records here.
https://www.melocki.org.uk/MelockiSalop.html

Margaret seems to be the witness on her sister Dorothy's marriage at Shifnall 29.10.1810 to Samuel Jervis./Jarvis
Daughter Louisa bapt at Madeley 7 Aug 1816

Margaret bapt 8.9.1772 to Samuel and Ann Mansell Lilleshall
Dorothy bapt 19.12.1779 Wellington
And brothers Joseph 2.4.1775 and William Oct 1777 Lilleshall .
Samuel Mansell married Ann Haywood 5.2.1771 at Lilleshall.

That may explain the move back to Shropshire after their marriage in London in 12.7.1800 at St Marylebone. wit John Willeck the clerk and Frances  Richards

I can't see anymore children in London either

London and Middlesex / Re: Edward Homewood 1829 Newington
« on: Saturday 21 February 26 11:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I think the the 1827 baptism at Frant is the correct one.
It looks like Elizabeth was a local girl and if she was single and working in London what more natural than she should go home to her parents in Frant.

Elizabeth Homewood bapt 3.11.1805 d of William and Mary Homewood .
It would make her 21 when Edward was born.
Siblings William 30.4.1797-26.11.1844 (Publican-Abergavenny Arms.) ,John 19.1.1801 (shoemaker married to Eliza) and Anne 6.8.1809 -20.10.1809.
William Homewood married at Frant 18.12.1796 ,to Mary Histed.
William Senior 1772- 29.3.1840 and Mary 1773-10.6.1819

It looks like Elizabeth Homewood from married James Hunt at Tonbridge Kent 23.8.1830
Witnesses William Homewood,Eliza Gale,Eliza Homewood ,G Stidolph (clerk).

Daughter Mary bapt 24.10.1832 (James a shoemaker)at Tunbridge Wells.
Mary died aged 3 months and was burried at Frant 28.12.1832.
It looks like Elizabeth died and was buried 27th Oct 1833 back at Frant of Tunbridge Wells age 28 years.

So Edward had lost his mother by the time he was 6.

But what of that mysterious Edward Homewood farmer?
Have you looked at Ancestry Trees?
Someone descended from Edward Homewood and Frances Burr's daughter Alice born 1869 has done a DNA test and highlighted their matches.
They match up with the following gentleman

Edward  Sears  farmer born 24 June 1804 Dartford s of Thomas Houssan Sears and Henrietta Shorte Taylor.
1841 Fulwich/Falwich Farm Dartford
Thomas 60 farmer y
Henrietta 40 y
Eliza 35 y
Edward 30 y
Robert 20 y
Ann Salis 20 FS t
Mary Chapman 20 FS

Edward's mother Henrietta 1771-19.9.1836 was from Frant so he would have visited the village.
Her gravestone is at Dartford. His parents had married at Frant 4.11.1791
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/233144081/henrietta-short-sears

Edward's father Thomas died in Sep 1844 and left a PCC Will .Older brother thomas got the Farm but Edward is mentioned.
I can't spot him on the 1851 census but he is in London in 1852.

All Saints Poplar 26.6.1852
Edward Sears widower farmer Poplar Thomas farmer
Ann Searles spinster Dartford Kent Samuel Searles Gent
wit George Phills and Elizabeth Pearce .Ann makes a mark ,the rest sign.

Edward seems to have a sons William born 1847 ,Harry 1850  and daughter Charlotte born 1844 from his first marriage.
Ellen 1856 and John 1859 born Wisconsin with his second.
They are in the US 1860-1880
Edward dies in Michigan 8.11.1880
His Probate is on the same site including an Inventory worth $5762.

It does look like Edward Homewood knew who his father was.He was called Edward and was a farmer but he just wasn't Edward Homewood.

Take a look .See what you think

Worcestershire / Re: William Nash b about 1750
« on: Friday 13 February 26 13:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
I'm not related to the Nash's but I'm happy to help where I can.
The marriage  to Ann Evans  14.1.1776 at St Andrews Worcester does look right.
Both are widowed .Witnesses Thomas and Mary Clarke.
Also banns called for the couple at Warndon.
But I'm not finding any good looking first marriages.

There are two possible earlier children  Mary 5.10.1777 Blockley ,John 17.2.1782 and a possible  latter daughter Sophie 1.2.1795 a Blockley Worc.

Have you got a burial for William with an age ?

most of the Nashs at Hanbury seem to be from Dodderhill
There is a William Nash bapt 5.2.1759 Dodderhill s of William and Diana nee Hadon married by licence 9.11.1737.
They both left Wills which are at Worcestershire Archives .
William 17.10.1772 and Diana 27.2.1790.
Their Gravestone (s) at Hanbury are also supposed to have survived.
Diana  died 22.2.1790 buried 1st March and William 10.8.1772 age 68 years.

Siblings Mary 27.8.1738-1.5.1740,John 2.2.1743 ,Diana 23.3.1745 ,Betty 5.6.1748-23.9.1750 ,Molly 21.9.1750 ,Thomas 16.3.1752 ,Humphrey c 1758 and Joseph 19.9.1762-21.6.1808

They seem a likely family and the Parents Wills would give more detail .
But it would help if we had some idea what happened to William and Ann after they had their 3 children at Hanbury
