Hi Emma....I didn't get any notification of your post and haven't been on rootschat for some time, so apologies for my late reply. Is your grandfather Joseph Cummiskey related to the Thomas I mentioned in my original post?

I haven't checked into Rootschat for some time and missed your posts below. Have you managed to resolve your query?

William Wood b.1829 was my 2nd great grandfather. I too have struggled with this family, however through Ancestry DNA I made contact with a distant cousin who suggested William was baptised in Cramlington and his mother was Mary Ann Moore, perhaps Robert's first wife as she said there was also a burial record for a Mary Ann Wood?

Would be good to make contact, Ayashi, to compare trees.

Scott....you should already have my personal email address from the 3 messages I sent with attached Cumiskey family birth, marriage, & death certificates.  Let me know if you didn't get these.

Hi Scott
Let me know if you continue to have problems sending your files.  Do you have my personal email?  I can always sort out a dropbox folder or similar to which you can upload them.
Thanks for this additional info.  I presume Jack was your grandfather John.
Also are all these families, other than Joseph who moved to Wales, based in Glasgow/Scotland?  I ask because I find Scotlandspeople website a struggle to use effectively without spending large amounts chasing red herrings!  Unfortunately there are really no real alternatives when researching Scottish families.
Hopefully my Ancestry tree will give you a good start on your Cumiskey links.  Sadly I think you may find your Welsh family history a bigger challenge as it seems to be a common name in Glasgow.  That said, I can tell you that your great grandfather John had a brother Alexander who had a wife Jeanie and daughter Catherine (1901 census for Commerce Street Glasgow).

Many thanks shellyesq!  Thomas' journey to the US and his immigration data had eluded my so far.  I'll need to check if John Commisky was related to Thomas or just a friend.

I have Thomas' birth certificate and his dob was 24 June 1886 in Clonmellon, Co. Westmeath.  His parents were Patrick Comaskey and Jane Lawler.

Hi Scott

Thanks for your last post.  Did Margaret Anne and John remain in Glasgow?  Was Frank the eldest child born somewhere between 1908 & 1911?  I'm trying to find them in 1911 census and the work forward to sort out children.

cheers
Chris

Further research has identified that Thomas Cummiskey married Maria Byrne in Kells on 22 Sept 1913.  He was enlisted in the Leinster Regiment in the British Army and served through WW1.  Maria was the 2nd daughter of Edward Byrne and Mary Carr; both of Kells.  Maria's sisters Margaret and Ellen married brothers Joseph and Patrick Dolan.  Thomas and Maria had four children (listed in previous post) who grew up in Kells.  Thomas left the army as a Sergeant Major in about 1922 with a pension but emigrated to New York in 1928 leaving the family in Kells.  He suffered in the US depression in 1929.  I'm not sure if he ever returned to Ireland.  I'd be interested to hear from anyone with links to these families.

As far as I know Margaret Anne was the eldest of Anne & Frank Cumiskey's children but I've never been able to trace her descendants.  She would have been my great aunt.  I'd love to see a copy of her birth certificate and to know who she married, where she lived, and who were her children etc.  I have a tree on ancestry which I'll happily share with you which will show her siblings and aunts & uncles.  I hope this will give you a good start in your family history.  Do you have any other information about Frank & Anne; particularly Frank's father Patrick?
