Hi Ros,

Thanks for your reply, it would appear that we are talking about a different Williamina as my one was Williamina Doig in 1919 when she gave birth.
However it does clarify one thing as we did notice the death entry for a Williamina Doig in Halifax and wondered if she was the person we are looking for.

Thanks again

Hi Ros,

Do you think your Williamina may tie in with my original message, i.e any possible connection with the factory Devil's Porridge at Eastriggs.

Thanks

Hi DORAN54,

I looked at this one before and found that according to the familysearch site that William Byers son of Thomas Byers & Mary Melson died 27th March 1780.

My earlier message today along with the various replies regarding William Byers (c1779) was moved to Quarantine due to a possible breach of copyright.
Anyone replying to my topic please take note of this.

I am looking for information on William Byers (c1779) who was my earliest known ancestor.
I know he was a soldier in the 4th regiment Scotch Militia based in Edinburgh Castle. On 20th Dec 1800 he married a Janet Scott in the Tolbooth Church.
Janet was daughter of Adam Scott of Yarrow.
William Byers died in 1829 in Dalkeith aged 51 years.

I am looking for information regarding William's parents, Janet Scott's mother and the Scotch Militia, 4th Regiment.

William Byers was my oldest known ancestor born around 1779 (birth place unknown) and died in Dalkeith in 1829 aged 51 years.
William was a soldier in the 4th Regiment, Scotch Militia at Edinburgh Castle when he married a Janet Scott on 20th Dec 1800 in the Tolbooth Church.
Janet was the daughter of Adam Scott, a labourer from the parish of Yarrow.
I am looking for any information regarding William's parents and where he was born.
Any information on Janet's mother would be welcome
Anything regarding the Scotch Militia, 4th Regiment also most welcome.

Hi ev,

Thanks for your message, I am aware of the Woodhouse-Doig connection.

Regarding the birth of a Williamina around 1898, the only one recorded in Scotland's People between 1891 & 1901 is a Williamina McFarlane Doig born in 1897 in Coupar Angus, Perthshire.
Any thoughts ??

Hi,

Thanks for the info regarding Williamina in the census records, I had noted them.
We know nothing about her apart from the fact she had an illegitimate child in 1919.
She gave up the child more or less at birth after which the child was reared by the father.
Where and when she was born and what happened after the birth of the child is a mystery.
The Devil's Porridge museum at Eastrigg's was unable to throw any light on Williamina either as some of their records were missing.
