Yes, John King paid for a total of 4 people, James Toone being one of them. That was 1651. However, by the time of his death he had amassed quite an estate, not wealthy by the days standards but at least worthy of a mention in passing:
"Substantial planters such as Samuel Hopkins, George Garland, Stanley Gower and Thomas
Yeatman all owned convict servants. So too did small planters like Thomas Nash, Jr. William
Crewsden, William Walker, William Richardson, Edward Hinkley, William Griffin, Edward Franklin,
Francis Christian, Charles Spoe, William Taylor and JAMES TOONE. "
There is another James Tune transported in 1673, I believe this to be his son as James jr is mentioned in James sr's will, mother unknown. I suspect that he made arrangements for his son to come over to Virginia after he had settled.
And yes, by "transported" I mean as a headright. I have the source document listing the deed for John King mentioning my ancestor. Thanks for the resource on ports and indentured life, Bristol makes sense, right close to the midlands.
Another question: would a feather bed be something that one would transport over to Virginia from England? How about a gun?
