The Lighter Side / Re: What music sparks your memory?

yes I do :) quite often I will tell some family member or friend the year something happened based on what was number one at the time. I think music in general brings back all sort of memories. I can not listen to some songs that were about and played alot when I was pregnant because they can make me feel sick :o

Filled the survey very quick and to the point :)

I personally don`t have a tree, just like to collect all the info on ancestors, last christmas I gave my sister a little `file` on our fathers paternal side it was more about where they lived  (none ever moved very far from each other) occupations etc rather than just who was related to who, but probably if I was able to trace enough ancestors on both my mothers ( hardly any) and fathers (lots) to make a lovely looking tree to present aswell as the file I would be interesed.

Thank-you Stan

That is what I thought, ancestor searching would be oh so much easier if ancestors did not change names,  be less than truefull on marriage, birth, death certificates and on census forms >:( but oh well guess that makes ancestor hunting `fun` ;D

The names of the bride and groom  on the cerificate are those they were known by at the date of the marriage and are not necessarily the ones on their birth certificates, it was not necessary to produce any proof of identity. Although if either of the parties had adopted or was known by names other than their true names the the clergy were instructed to enter both names with the word "otherwise" between them.

Stan

Hi Stan
So if the person did not inform the clergy they were known by another name then only the name they were given would be recorded? I think I have this problem with one of my ancestors I don`t think the name he married and died with was the name he was born with, makes things so complicated but I don`t suppose he thought that one day his grand-daughter would be tearing her hair out trying to do family tree :)

I would ask the question as sensitively as possible, unless I knew it would really upset the person.
If I knew the answer to a sensitive question yes I would answer, the past is the past things that happened have happened and can not be changed.

Lancashire / Re: Blackstone st and Arlington st.

Thank you both for replies

Any website info I get is very welcome, I know just from reading posts on here there are lots of helpful sites its just a case of finding them!!
I did not realise Blackstone and Arlington st were close together, I know Arlington st -where my mum was born- is no more I presume Blackstone st still exists I found it on a street map it is close to Fulton st another street that was on my list of look-ups, but because the date I wanted was 1911 and the place where those records are held is not open to public on Mondays the kind staff looked up my address. Sadly no joy the house was not on the register I was hoping the lady who was most likely living there at the time might of had my great-grandad living with her but if he was he did not register to vote darn it ;D

Thank you Polly88

I did contact LRO explaining I was hoping to look at electoral rolls for specific addresses but I am a novice! they sent lovely e-mail back saying its fine just turn up the staff will help you. I was just wondering if anyone knew area so I did not take up so much of their time, like  said I am a novice do not know how this things work but presume the more you know about what you are looking for the better it is. As it happens I was not able to make the trip afterall  ::) but still very much plan on going in near future and really really really hope it gives me some clues about my grandfather. One can but hope :)

I do agree with you Jean.

I have a friend who is considering starting researching her family history.  I told her about RC and said people are always willing to help if you are stuck.  All they ask for their trouble is 'thank you'.  She was horrified and said she couldn't possibly ask for help because she didn't know enough to help others.  I told her she would, in time.  We all have skills that we can use to help others.

Rishile

That is exactly how I feel, always asking but unable to help :-[  its a confidence thing and by the time i`ve searched out information the person has got their family tree all mapped out ;D but love reading peoples posts and seeing their queries resolved, one day I will feel useful enough to help this is certainly a hobby that you want to share with people :)
