Midlothian / Re: Details from marriage in Scotland?
« on: Yesterday at 18:59 »
Thank you all for your contributions, especially the many  from Softly, softly. Interesting to see John was a commercial traveller. He later worked for Patent medicine wholesalers, Bolton, Blanchard & Co. and later Raimes, Blanchard & Co. who worked from Leith Walk.  (perhaps only joining the firm after the marriage?) I think John and Jane's wedding was in Leith because of the Blanchard Raimes connection. Great also to have more info about John's parents. Sadly he died in Jan. 1854  in York leaving Jane with 4 young children. The Bolton's were living/working from New Bridge Street  and Micklegate in York. I am very grateful for all your help - it has been tricky trying to find out about John Bolton.  Maribel

Midlothian / Details from marriage in Scotland?
« on: Yesterday at 12:37 »
John Bolton married Jane Blanshard in South Leith Church, Midlothian, on 16 May 1846. The only other information I have is that her father John Blanchard was there.
How can I find out any further information especial about when John  Bolton was born, and who his parents were, and what was his occupation?  many thanks for any pointers in the right direction. Maribel

Other Countries / Re: Buccianti, late 18th/early 19th Egypt

Yes Hillhurst, my great grandfather was Alfred Hall. He married Adèle Tourneau, daughter of Emilie Buccianti and Eugene Tourneau. I do not know when they were married but her name was given in a French documents of her children's births. She was born, I think, in Alexandria, as was her daughter Adèle. I think she died in Port Said (or Ash Shariquiyah) c.1916. (this information from Italian relations). I wish I knew Emilie's parents, but I have not found a record yet.
I am intrigued, you sound as though your family is close to this part of the Buccianti family.

Thank you so much for this information Hillhurst. Great to get his name correct. My family had a book written by Alessandro, (in about 1848) in Italian about Napoleon's campaign (now lodged with Middle Eastern Studies Centre in Oxford) that was translated by my gt. grandfather in 1908. He mentions his uncle, but we have no idea how either were relay=ted to my 2xgt grandmother Emilie Buccianti.

I will try and find out how to unearth information from British Chancery Registers in Constantinople.
my thanks again, Maribel

I am trying to find more about Italian George Buccianti, who was acting British Consul in Alexandria from about 1796 to 1806. Where is the best place for me to look?  Would British consular records have any information? Also not known where/when he was born, and if he had wife and family.  thank you, maribel.

Australia / Re: Mary Ann BOON/HALL m.Charles Palmer?

Hi austted, nice to have a few more bits from your story.  However there seem to be some errors in the UK side.
Parents of William Lawson Hall of Bingara were William Moore Hall and Alice Lawson. She was born in Whitby in 1801 and he was born in Portsmouth in 1810, although his father had come from Scarborough. His father had died young and his mother married again in Portsmouth. William Moore died in 1850, which is apparently why his son William Lawson left home to find money to send back to his widowed mother with 5 young children. He never did.

I have a few marriage and death certificates, and as far as I know there is no connection with Alton - but then Hall is a very common name.

More later if you would like, and I will see if I can find any more about Mary Ann Boon's family.

best wishes, Maribel

Hi aussted, I am excited to find some more Austrlian relations - even if rather a long way back. I visited Bingara some years back and saw the Hall staging inn on the Barraba road.  Great to have your info about its name etc. William's father William Hall (who is our 3 x great grandfather) had run a staging business from Portsmouth to London - so he had some experience of this, (although rather different travel conditions!)

I did meet Linda Hall, Harry' younger brother William's daughter, in Bingara, 6 years back and a few months before she died. She had had a tough and very isolated life I think. It is good to have some information about Harry to fill out that part of the family.

many thanks for getting in touch, maribel

My maiden surname was Lawson-Hall

Thanks again to hanes teulu and despair/Roger.  I am delighted that my enquiry has brought a lot more information on elusive branch of Lawson family. As you say Roger a difficult name to trace especially with fairly common first names (well not perhaps Stephenson!).
I am not sure there will be much more to discover - it seems most likely that Stephenson did not have any other children apart from Alice (although he may also have had a daughter named Jane).

I am happy to call this discussion to a close, unless you find something wildly exciting.

Thank you so much
Maribel

Many thanks to all for your contributions. However I am confused myself with the 3 Charles Lawson. I think this is the most correct conclusion.

1) Charles eldest b.c 1725 d.1807 , m to Alice Stephenson in 1770.

2)Charles  - his son, b.1774 Whitby.  Married Ann Smith, Knaresburgh 18 June 1798. Is a mariner.

3) They have son Charles, baptised 1800. Left £100 in his grandmother Alice Lawson's will.

This leaves me with Alice's granddaughter Jane. Whose daughter is she??  I will scrap the one I found from a marriage of a Charles Lawson to Elizabeth Eckins. Perhaps Charles (2) and Stephenson's other brothers John and Daniel married and had a Jane but I have not found their marriages in Family search.
