HI lesls I cant recall any one saying that Samuel was in the army but will check for you Mum dosnt recall any Marthas in the family,  Ibelieve that Elizabeths father built a bridge in Widnes not sure if it is still there though.  Mum seems to know all about them even down to knowing that they lived in a street called Fredrick above a shop called Bradleys ! Joseph worked what is now known as I C I. use to be Musprats and then  it became Musprats and Deacons when he was there.  I am going to Widnes at the end of the week as unfortunately Patricks father died. Iam not sure how garstonite is connected to the family or if he is maybe he could supply a few more details and I will check with mum,  does the name Mary Pitkin mean anything to you as she seems to be tracing the American side of the family as well she sent me photos of Sarah and two of Samuels sisters regards Margaret
regards Margaret

to lesls Hi have speaking to mum is your father the vet?,  and have you a sister.  We live in Essex about 200 miles from Widnes my mum married and moved this way in 1946 but all the family stayed very close. The cousin my mum wrote to was Mary Wickersham Annies daughter who married Launor Carter and they had one son. She didnt know that the sisters and her Uncle Joe as she referred to him didnt get on.  Annie came over here to see my Grandfather about 1969. I remeber Mary and Launor bringing her. I beleive Joseph had a butchers shop in Garston. My grandfather also had a butchers shop in Widnes, Samuels mother was Sarah Ratcliffe she went to America about 1912.Joseph didnt go with her he lived with Samuel and Beatrice. Mum said he had sort of accident and only had one arm so maybe that was something to do with it. I amsure if yoiu want anymore information mumcould provide it she has a terrific memory. She said do you a know anything about a Sir Henry Leigh of the Leigh Estates I beleive there was a bit of a scandle there lol regards Margaret
