Hi  :)

I was so pleased to get this reply today.  As you say, better late than never!  Thank you.

Your post has confirmed a few of my ancestors for me.  Whilst I was quite sure I'd found most of them, there are a couple of names you've put forward that I haven't been able to confirm as yet.

The last Donald in your post was my dad.   Donald McArthur (1925- 1995)  My dad had six siblings, sadly only one is now living.

This post has got me itching to get searching again.  Thank you for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate this.

Best wishes

Hi all

I've just started researching my tree.  I also have Kinning Park connections.
My paternal family (McArthur) are listed in marriages and also census entries for Kinnning Park.

My g grandfather Donald McArthur is listed as marrying Margaret McGillivray at Kinning Park on 1st June 1894.  Also, on the 1901 census, I have him living at 50 Kinning Street.

If anyone can shed any further light on any of these leads I'd be most grateful.

Thank you

Hi

I've just registered on this site and came across your post.

I'm also researching McArthur/McGilvray.

My g grandfather was Donald McArthur, born Oa, Islay, Argyllshire.  He married Margaret McGilvray in Glasgow on 1st June 1894.

Maggie, as she was known, was the daughter of Charles and Jean McGilvray (nee Gillies) They were married in Portnahaven, Islay, Argyllshire on 11th December 1856.

I notice in your post that you mention the McArthur family moving from Islay to Gorbals district of Glasgow.
My father (Donald McArthur) and all of his siblings were born in the Gorbals between 1920 and 1938.

I wonder if there may be some common ground here?

It would be good to compare notes.

Hello to all

I'm a new member on this forum.  I've recently began to research my family tree with new vigour after a lapse of a few years.

I'm researching my father's side of the family and so far have found that my g grandfather was born at Oa. He was Donald McArthur and married Margaret (Maggie) McGilvray.  Margaret's father was Charles McGilvray and her mother was Jean Gillies.  Charles and Jean were married on 11th December 1856 at Portnahaven, Islay, Argyllshire.

If anyone is researching the same line/families it would be great to hear from you and perhaps to share discoveries.

I'm also interested in my father's paternal line.  My brother, (1959 to 2011) was called Donald McArthur, My father (1925 to 1995) was also Donald McArthur and it would seem that my g g grandfather, g grandfather and grandfather were all Donald McArthur.  I love the fact that the first born son was always called Donald.
Unfortunately my brother didn't have a son, otherwise there would have been another Donald.  He had two daughters, one of whom he called Dawn.

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.
