Not necessarily.  I am sure your grandfather had gleaned a wealth of information I cannot access, in particular information about the American branch of the family.
I know it started with Henry Norweb and Jeanne Palmer going over to America.  i can then follow the line a bit but become easily confused once we get to the next generation after Raymond Henry Norweb Jr and Elizabeth Gardiner.
If you could fill me in via email to *  on how the line moves from there I would be very grateful.

Thanks
Sue

Lovely to hear from a fellow Norweb/b.

I have started to glean more and more information about the family both here, in America, Canada, Australia and Botswana.  There are loads of offshoots but every single Norwebb or Norweb I have come across has been linkable to the same family tree so I gather that there is only one Norwebb/Norweb family in existance - which makes family research so much easier.

It would be great if you could locate any of your grandfathers research.  I know the memoirs of Janetta were revived by your side of the family and my dad met with Raymond Henry Norweb many many years ago at a huge family get together in England.  We also received communication from him when he was looking at putting an appendix in the memoirs.

I have a copy of the memoirs of our ancestor and it makes for very interesting reading.  How much of it is true is anybody's guess but my research has found that lots of the people and events did actually happen - whether they happened to her or not is another thing.

Cheers

Thanks

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Norweb/Norwebb Janetta

Hi

I am trying to locate a possible workhouse death record or admissions record for Glandford Brigg Workhouse.  Janetta (aka Jenetta) Norweb (aka Norwebb) was buried on 5 Apr 1817 in Wrawby Lincolnshire so her death would have been around then.

Any other parish records under the name of Norweb or Norwebb (particularly Thomas, George or James) that anyone comes across would also be of great use as any person with that surname belongs to the same family.

She wrote her memoirs while at the workhouse and they were published in 1812

Many thanks

Snorwebb

Hi Susan

Thanks for your post.   Its my friend's family tree that I am tracing and each step of the way along the Norwebb trail I have become more jealous wishing it was my family!  The memoirs was almost the final straw, what an amazing legacy!

So if you don't mind a few questions.

(1) Have you had any luck finding the marriage of Thomas Norwebb to Janetta at Gretna Green?
(2) I've found James Norwebb's baptism in 1766 but have you found baptisms for either brother George or Thomas?
(3) Have you found any information on Thomas Norwebb Snr's birth, details of either of his 2 sisters or his parents marriage?

Damian

Well you seem to know more about the early Norweb/bs than I do.  I have not found Janetta (jenetta) and Thomas's marriage record.  I just have her burial information in Wrawby, Lincoln

George was her youngest child and I have located a George Norweb born in cira 1811 mentioning that he was born st St Mary's Nottinghamshire but that would mean this George Norweb was born 6 years before Janetta's death and cannot therefore be the george norwebb we seek.  I cannot locate another record of George Norwebb or Thomas Norwebb Junior.  Thomas Norwebb (jr) supposedly died aged 36  3 months after receiving a kick from a horse.  He was known to be a waster of a lad.  George, apparently, joined the Lincoln Militia but later deserted them and went to leghorn (then said he was off to America and his mother never heard from him again)  He supposedly married a woman who lived in Louth when he deserted her.  He worked in a shop in Alford (trade directories would need to be consulted here) which I believe Thomas Norwebb Snr owned so it is more than likely this was a watch/clock repairing shop.  George moved from Alford to Southwell Nottinghamshire where he was a manufacturer of sorts.

I would love to know more about Thomas Norwebb (sr) and his two sisters and where you have gleaned that information?  Anything would be of use.

I have found one possible early Norweb
Dina Norweb born circa 1704  Baptised in Swyre (Dorset, England) 2nd January 1704
Dina's father was called Benjamin Norweb (who must have been born somewhere in 1600's but cant find record of him anywhere else. (Not too sure about the transcription though from looking at original parish register)

Okay here are some possibles

Susanna Bardon married to Richard Humphry 23 Jun 1834 at Nettlestead, Kent
Susannah Armstrong married to Richard Humphrys 27 Jul 1835 at St Mary, Shrewsbury, Shropshire
Susannah Lewin married 09 Sept 1832 at Saint Giles, Camberwell, Surrey, England

On the 1841 census there is this listing
Richard Humphress 45
Susan Humphress 30
Sarah Humphress 7
Berkshire, England  Civil Parish of East Lockinge.

I have already found information that states that Richard and Susan had a daughter called Sarah Ann Humphries (possibly baptised at East Lockinge, Berkshire on 20 Jul 1834) so the census would relate to this family

Census and other historical recorded data does have lots of variants of name as the transcribers and the individuals either could not spell or did not see the importance of correct recording.  I find this alot in my job at Nottinghamshire Archives.

When looking for Susan Humphries I would also suggest that you look under susanna and susannah.

Hope this is of help to you

Also the name James appears throughout the Norwebb line over and over again - as does Elizabeth, Ann, William and John

Hi

If it's information on the Nottingham Norwebbs or the Norwebbs from anywhere around the world (they are all connected) then I have loads of information.

I also happen to work at Nottinghamshire Archives and have seen the baptism, burial and marriage entries first hand.

The presbyterian church later became congregational and then United reformed emerged from that.  This hopefully explains one of your questions.

As for people being baptised in one place and buried in another>  There are several reasons for this:
The person might live in another area when they die and therefore be buried in that parish church.
The church they were baptised in might not have a graveyard or the graveyard may be full by the time of death so another one had to be sought.
Also many Nottinghamshire deaths in 1700s - 1800's and early 1900's resulted in burials in the two main cemeteries in Nottingham.  The Church Cemetery and the General Cemetery.  I have already located various Norwebb/Norweb family members in the General Cemetery archives.

Also of
interest to you might be the memoirs of Janetta Norwebb who died circa 1813. These memoirs provide a wealth of information and I have transcribed the lot from the british library copy I managed to borrow for a while.

I have managed to trace the Norwebb name now back to 1700's and have found family members in America, Canada, Australia, Botswana as well as England.  Also Janetta has connections to wealthy merchants in Madiera and Scotland - so we are quite spread out.

If you manage to locate a Norwebb or Norweb then it is 99.9% likely they are related as I have found connections for all Norwebbs traced so far and have been led to believe it was a made up name.

Cheers
