Thanks for your messages, Alan. The website doesn't seem to let me send personal messages yet.
Catherine (the little girl) was born around 1858 so unless she was much older than she looked in the picture it can't have been taken as late as 1874.
I exchanged e-mails a few years ago with a descendant of James T in New Zealand, so if your cousin's wife is interested I could try to put them in touch.
Regarding Milnes, the north east of Scotland is infested with them. The Milne connection that I mentioned is from Alexander & Mary's daughter Susan, who married a Mr Milne.
Best wishes from Scotland (Edinburgh).

Hello Alan5

Alexander Taylor and Mary Cruickshank were my great great great grandparents; I'm descended from their daughter Margaret (b 1824).  I've attached a photo of Mary with her granddaughter Catherine (daughter of Mary's daughter Catherine) that was taken in the 1860s. The story passed down through the family is that the picture was taken to be sent to Catherine's uncle (James?) abroad. I've also attached a picture of their gravestone in Tarves.
I know a few odds and ends about other descendants of Mary and Alexander. The only famous-ish one (apart from us) that I know of is Alasdair Milne (descended from their daughter Susan), who was Director General of the BBC in the 1980s.
Happy to give you more if you want.
