I was just reading back on some the posts about the Shergold family.....everyone, even myself gets caught up in the parish and census records..... so lets look in an ad lib way..... i will give you all some backgrounds....
The John Shergold line of Hale Hampshire was involved in the Nomansland land case of charcoal wood burners hut..... Elizabeth had a shop in the Downton Redlynch area..... several daughters never married and Eliz the younger died in Salisbury.... One of her sisters lived with her for a while....
Of the Redlynch lines Richard and Delilah Moody was off the Richard shoemaker line around Wishford... Richard remarried and went to Epping and remarried Judith Manning.... his obituaries were exquisive. One the children lived in Suffolk..Capel St Mary and also was a watchmaker....a blind chap.....there were a few watchmakers in that line..... and schoolteachers...there are connections to Bramshaw through the Downton lines......however a namesake John Shergold centuries before broke a millbank that belonged to the brother of Elizabeth I's lovers brother.....
When I studied the family more carefully there branches of the Salisbury line that went to London...namely Richard the Stockbroker of Threadneedle street....one chap was the 'vicar' of Salisbury Cathedral...... Johannes set up a school on Isle of Wight, and land was acquired in Fordingbridge by another sib.......
Many schools were set up by spinster children on the Cherriholme.Sadler line.......
The Yatesbury line, to which I am related moved onto Swindon and beyond but it is speculative to whether on of the heads came from Devizes/BIshops Cannings or Mark Lighterman line of Steeple Langford......or even Robert the Brewer of Somerset....
thats all i have time to write at moment....
