Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: Pontefract Burial Records
« on: Wednesday 25 December 13 08:37 GMT (UK)  »
Many thanks, but I really want to know where the burial records can be found or if someone could look for them for me. I located and visited the grave when I lived in the UK and have a death certificate and details of the grave site. What I need to know now is are their any other details in the authorities burial record ie, next of kin/nationality of the deceased/grave owner etc.
Regards and a merry Christmas

Hello, My name is Frederick Engelbert and I am interested in locating the burial record of my greatgrandfather David who is interned in an unmarked grave in section 0, grave space 1498 in Pontefract Cemetery, Skinners Lane Pontefract. He died 5/12/1939 at 46 Monkhill Avenue.
Hoping someone can do a look up for me.
Best regards and many thanks

Europe / Hamburg Customs Officers, 1800/1870
« on: Sunday 21 October 12 13:25 BST (UK)  »
Can any one please direct me to any archives that might exist for Hamburg Customs Officers for the period 1800 to 1870.
My ancestor was said to have lived in the city and was recorded as having been a "Controleur, Zollamt" which I think means Customs Office Controler. The French spelling I assume is from Napoleons influence on the running of the area about that time.
Any sighting of this mans file/record as an Officer would, I think, reveal details of his family, especially his children, the details of one in particular (my Great-grandfather) will go a long way to helping me complete my family tree.
Regards

Europe / Re: Germany/Prussia to England immigration

Hello,
I too have a similar problem!.
My greatgrandfather, born in Hamburg in 1850, moved to Liverpool, sometime around 1860/70, and married a Liverpool girl in 1879. They had quite a large family, at least six that survived. They lived in Toxteth Park, but my grandfather, Emil David Engelbrecht, never put his name to anything and made it quite difficult to trace him. I cannot find any reference to his birth in Hamburg, most of the records I believe were destroyed by those British bombing raids sometime during the 39/45 conflict. He changed his name to Engelbert and died in Pontefract in 1939.

Europe / Will I ever find my little Hamburger?
« on: Tuesday 13 December 11 11:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
I have a Home Office "aliens at large in the UK" card file for my Greatgrandfather. It states that he was born in Hamburg 21-04-1850 and that he was exempt from internment until further notice. This was in 1939; when he was 89 years old!!!
I have written to almost every church in Hamburg and not one of them say that they have any records but that they were either burnt in bombing raids or are now in the State Archive. The State Archive tell me that the records for the period I am researching, 1830-1860 are to be found in the church archives!!!!!
I have noticed that the LDS records for Germany, something like 30 million+ , have only approx 790 for Hamburg births, none for marriages and none for deaths.
Can anyone please suggest where I can look now?
Regards
Frederick

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Can anyone decipher this Surname please

Alexander,
I would appreciate you letting me know how to access the Parish Registry entry you kindly posted for me. I would like to look at the image and what else is shown on the entry. I am also thinking that other children would have been registered at the same place and their entry's might reveal more details!!
Regards
Frederick

Alexander, Many thanks for that signature image.
It is much clearer than the one I had: but I still cannot make it out.
