lanercost - thank you so much; that's exactly what I needed to know, and I have found Thomas's 1814 baptism on another site, so yay!

If anybody has access to the parish registers of Lanercost, I would love to have the details of these 2 baptisms:
baptism of Thomas Potts on 18 Sep 1814 to William and Grace Potts - all that's missing is Wm's occupation and their abode

Any 2 of the following baptisms to William Potts and Grace Elwood - I don't need them all; I'm hoping one will give additional information and a 2nd one will confirm rather than contradict said info:
21 July 1803 Mary Ann Potts and Grace Potts
2 April 1804 William Potts
24 March 1808 Richard Potts
7 May 1805 Jane to Potts
1 Apr 1806 Margaret Potts
12 Feb 1807 John Potts
3 Sep 1811 Frederick Potts

I'm used to working with Durham and Northumberland records - did this part of Cumberland provide, in the 1798-1812 period, baptism details such as birthplaces of the parents or names of the grandfathers?

Thanks heaps in advance,
Holly

Durham / Re: Lamesley Parish Registers 1813 Baptisms
« on: Wednesday 08 February 17 06:59 GMT (UK)  »
I am please to report that we (Durham Records Online) have rectified this problem with the Lamesley transcripts. There are actually 2 overlapping baptism registers for Lamesley from 1813 to mid-1818 - the "regular" version, which is probably what the BT was copied from, and another version that continued the Barrington-era details such as mother's maiden surname and parental nativity. We have now updated our baptism transcripts for this period to reflect the Barrington-style register (plus the few baptisms that appeared in the terse register but not the more detailed register) - so now full details for Lamesley may be had without going to the record office!

And yes, the Barrington version of the register shows the entry in question as Thomas Ward s/o John Ward & Mary Aisbett.

Pufflet - I am not related to this family, but I run a Wanless surname study, and at our site (www.wanlessweb.org), we have the will of David Wanliss who made his will in 1830 and died in 1832 at Abernethy. His wife was Janet Moon, who pre-deceased him. In this will, he names "Andrew Barclay tenant of Balgonie" and "David Barclay, James Wanliss Barclay, and Catherine Barclay my grandchildren, being the children of the marriage of the said Andrew Barclay and my deceased daughter Elizabeth Wanliss", and later in the will, he adds the child Janet to the same list. FamilySearch or the OPR shows birth/baptism records for these 4 children at Abernethy (David 1819, Janet 1821, James Wanless Barclay 1823, Catherine Nicol Barclay 1825). Their mother Elizabeth Wanless must have died between Catherine's birth in Nov 1825 and the writing of David's will in Sep 1830. It looks to me like Andrew remarried (to Jean Ritchie? Is there a marriage record?) between 1825 and 1831 and they had Elizabeth and Georgina. Andrew, and presumably Jean, were dead by the 1841 census, and the older siblings David & Janet appear with their younger siblings Elizabeth & Georgina at the family farm at Balgonie. At least, that's how it looks to me.

I like the theory that Andrew Barclay was a son of David Barclay & Catherine Nicol. Andrew's wife Elizabeth was born in 1784; if Andrew was born to David & Catherine in 1788, he would have been just a few yrs younger than Elizabeth.

Question: Have you seen the marriage of Georgina Barclay & John Smith? Does it not name her parents?

regards,
Holly

Cumberland Lookup Requests / 2 Wanlass burials @ Penrith 1815 & 1818 needed
« on: Monday 19 September 11 01:09 BST (UK)  »
Familysearch.org shows the following 2 burials at Penrith, Cumberland:

09 Dec 1815 Thomas Wanlass s/o William Wanlass
26 Aug 1818 Elizth. Towers Wanlass d/o Annas Wanlass

I would be grateful if somebody with access to the Penrith St. Andrew burial register could look up the details of these - they should at least contain the children's ages, and possibly other useful details.

Thank you very much in advance,
Holly Cochran
