Thanks Millie for your quick reply. Looked in to George & Minnie and they are not related to me. The one in Armagh for 1897 has Samuel as a father and a mother Margaret. Dont think his name is George as I was looking at the wrong rels record :(

Albert Watson b 1897 died 1943 (Anzac) Gisborne New Zealand married my grandmother Agnes McElney in 1924 in Belfast. On his wedding cert it states his father as George. but on his death recorded on forces war records states his father as cyril and his mother as alice from bristol. I am having problems trying to find alberts birth certificate. not sure if he was born in bristol or ireland as i cant find either. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi A big thank you to Malky and Leanne for your information.

Malky - My Late mother Charlotte Wilhelmina was born to Agnes in Belfast in 1921. Agnes was unmarried at that time. She married Albert in 1924 (we do not know if he was the father as no name appeared on the birth certificate). When they went to Nz Agnes left my mother behind in Belfast and was unofficially adopted by Ma McAllister and became know as Shaddy McAllister. My mum never met her mother Agnes. I have researched my McElney family back to the 1790c. And had no info on Albert's parents till yesterday when i found him and his parents on forces war records.

Leanne - thank you for your links. We visited the cemetery in Gisbourne in 2008 when we went to nz. My gt grandfather and gt uncle are buried there. Also i recently found my cousin Myrtle Saunders McKinley and her daughter Kay on line there too. I never met or knew any of them. My grandmother is buried in Hasting cemetery which i have also viewed on line. We never went to Hastings so we hope you go there next time we visit.,

Regards Lynda

Hi Leanne thanks for quick reply.

At the time of his death Albert and my Grandmother Ciss (Agnes) were living in Disraeli Street in Gisbourne.
My Grandma died in Hastings in 1969.

I await your reply with great interest.

Hi Jim are you related to Thomas McElney & Sarah Anderson.
Hi Lindy,
I don't know Thomas' first wife's name but they had a son William McElnay (b1852 d1936) at Portballintrae. Thomas later married Anne Smart in Monaghan 1861. William is my GGfather. I believe that Thomas parents were also Thomas and maybe Margaret Jackson
Hi Jim
I think we must be distant cousins. I am going to Belfast at the end of this month with my husband to do some further research. I am hoping to find a link to some of the McElney  families that I have discovered. I do have a family tree, but I need to find the descendants from my gggfather. His three brothers Thomas, Robert and George.

Hi I am looking for ancestors of Thomas McElney c1810 and Margaret Jackson. They had 4 sons, Thomas, Robert, George & William. I am a descendant of William (and Agnes Curry). They came from Co. Monaghan.
I too am a descendant of Thomas, through Thomas, brother of William, who moved to Portballintrae in Co. Antrim
