Hi Athena GR
Thanks for info.  I spoke with someone recently who indicated that the Pemrbroke cottages Shane noted on the OSI map recently were known as 'the Estate Cottages' locally?  On the opposite side of the river down from the Vocational Tech are 8 cottages also named 'Estate Cottages'?
I've located a cousin who seems to have some information and whom I'm  hoping to meet in the next couple of weeks re my gf Charles.  I'll let you know if there appears to be any connection to your James Byrne, but at the moment it seems unlikely.

Yes, I have his marriage cert and his father is William Byrne, Co. Wicklow.  As you say having such a common name as Byrne makes it very difficult! Best wishes.

My g/f Charles' nephew Nicholas Kerwin, 2 Pembroke Place. Ballsbridge married a Jane Byrne in 1903, at which time her address was 16 Brook Lawn Donnybrook (located on map from Shane) - however her father is named as Michael Byrne - any relationship?

Thank you both for reply and info (map was very helpful).  I had wondered if it was possible James might be a brother, however Charles was born in Co. Wicklow? so therefore definitely not related.

I am new to this site and also interested in locating Martins Cottages. My grandfather Charles Byrne at the time of his marriage in 1889 was residing in 8 Martins Cottages Ballsbridge.
