Northumberland Lookup Requests / Re: Northumberland Look up please.

I am the grand daughter of the third son, Thomas Lisle born 1878.
William, his father, the farm steward, was married twice and had five children with the first wife (Agnes Lisle) and two, as you say, with Elizabeth Porteous.
I have been in contact I think with your daughter and we have exchanged notes.
All my information is on the ancestry.co.uk website. I have found out lots of interesting things about the family.

Best wishes,
Rebecca

Hello Roy, thanks for your message.
I have a photo of the grave and the other Lisle grave next to it, but both are quite faint.
There is no information about George Burn Lisle, ie where he was born or what he died of which is a real nuisance.
Best wishes

Hi Janis,
yes I knew that thank you, but nice of you to send anyway.  How did you come across that information?

Do you have any idea how I might find William's first marriage in about 1835 to Agnes Lisle? Possibly Scotland as their first child was born there.  I suspect she was a cousin or something. Living on the borders as they did makes it very hard to keep track of them.  William says he was born in Horncliffe in 1813 but there is no sign of his christening there and I think his father was a bit wayward, moving around a lot.

Actually William Lisle and Elizabeth Porteous were next door neighbours in 1851 in Ancroft. She was much younger than him - 17 years about. William was a farm steward, working for his uncle and a widower with four young children so I imagine Elizabeth went in and helped and then....
Poor William died very soon after in 1855. Luckily Elizabeth and the children all got a bit of money from his uncle (William Lisle) and they were ok. Elizabeth later married a tailor called Andrew Ray, also a widower.
Are you following this Lisle branch? What is your connection? James Lisle was my g grandfather.
Best wishes

Hello Sue,
I was intrigued to see that we share some ancestors in common.

Elizabeth Lisle was  married to my g g grandfather, William Lisle. After years of search I found this marriage as a irregular marriage at Starch House Toll.
They do not appear on the 1851 census because they didn't marry until 1852. William was a widowerer.
If you want to know more, do reply.
Best wishes
