Thanks for your messages. Wow, I hadn't logged in to this for a very long time as the 'Bertha' story is now complete for me.

The Thomas Tandy I had been seeking via this thread was Bertha's son (and I remain grateful for the help of the reseachers in here), for whom I now have a birth certificate stating he was born in 1850 in New Zealand. I also have the marriage certificate for Bertha and Thomas Tandy (which indicates a birth year of 1819 for Thomas Snr). The information contained in these certificates and a few publications about all of the people who were in and around Otago at the time (and which specifically mention Thomas Snr), clearly indicates that Bertha's husband Thomas Tandy is a different Thomas from the one you have in your tree.

Thank you for your interest and I'm pleased this thread has solved some of the Bertha mystery for you also.

Cheers

Hi there

Hope you can read the attachment - may need to enlarge and print out. There is a list of the passengers aboard the Augusta Jessie - arrival 11 October 1837 - available from the NSW State Archives - digital image available. There is a David Waters mentioned travelling with 3 others (all children??).

Europe / Looking for siblings of Constantine George Macris - born in Greece
« on: Tuesday 29 January 13 03:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all

Constantine George Macris was born on 24 May, 1889 in Samos, Greece - died in Sydney, Australia in 1939. He came to Australia aboard the Rhine and arrived 9 August 1910. Married Helena Stewart in Sydney, NSW in 1913.

In a stat dec written by Constantine (known as Kostas to family) he states that his father's name was George. Mother's name was Kalliope.

I am specifically looking for Constantine's siblings, when and where they were born (if not in Greece) and trying to determine if any of them also emigrated to Australia.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Thank you so much Leanne.

The stat dec signed by Constantine on the NAA site has given me a lot of answers that I needed to have, including his arrival date AND solved a mystery as to whether he lived in Egypt for a period of time.

Again, many thanks.

How to Use RootsChat (Please don't post requests here) / Re: how to post a photo
« on: Tuesday 22 January 13 04:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Yonks

Are you talking about posting a photo to RC? Or somewhere else?

If trying to post to RC, there is a link at the bottom of message boxes called ‘Attachments and other options’. You need to click on that link. It will open up a box with the word ‘Attach’ above it. On the right hand side of the box, you will see a button that says ‘Browse’.

Click on ‘Browse’ and it will open up the files/folders where you should have your photos stored on your computer. You need to search through your files/folders to find your photo. Double click on the photo you want and it will load some text into the box that basically ‘gives directions’ as to where your photo can be found on your PC.

After you have typed your message in the normal message box, just hit the ‘Post’ button and all will upload to Rootschat including your photo.

Does that give you enough info to have a go?

Hello All

Am wondering if anyone can help me trace when my late great uncle George's father - Constantine George Macris - came to Australia please?

Constantine was known to the family as 'Kostas' and married a Helena Stewart in Sydney in 1913 ( his name is recorded on the marriage certificate as Kostas G Makris, however, the correct spelling is and has always been Macris).

I believe Constantine was born in Pyrgos in Greece around 1888 and died in Sydney in 1956.

I would like to know when he came to Australia and whether he came with any other family members.

Appreciate any help.

London and Middlesex / Re: William Charles Race
« on: Saturday 28 April 12 06:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Could be off on a tangent here but is this a possible:

The 1901 census seems to show William as a visitor, working as a 'builder general labourer'. Other people in the census are a Cecilia Kenneth (58), Eliza Kenneth (19) and Charles Kenneth (15). It is showing he is still single, but that he was born in London, Westminster.

Is this him? Or a different William?

Otherwise the next time a William Race seems to appear is in the early electoral registers of the 1920's, however, the name appears alone.

There is also a William Race living at 43 Aston Road, Bromley who died 12 March 1941. Could this be your William? Informant was an Emily Akroyd.

Can't find a marriage, so possible he never married?
