Lancashire / Re: The 'Economic' Garston Liverpool

Fascinating reading all this, right this moment!  I am researching my husband's Liverpool tree and have tracked down some Irish.  What a surprise!

Having forked out the exorbitant cost of an image of the 1921 Census, I have found a great uncle of his who was an out of work joiner for ... Economic Building Company in Allerton.  I suppose he was between jobs but still in their employ.

More joiners and carpenters than one can shake a stick at and too many Thomases.  No imagination in his family - or respect for their ancestors, maybe.

I'm beginning to think you must be right, aghadowey.  Having quizzed him again, my husband says it was meant to be the grandfather, not great grandfather, who was born in Wexford.  We know _he_ was born in Clintoe, Monaghan, as we have seen his birth certificate.

The first child of Sarah Boag/Bogue and Thomas Wright was Margret/Maggie born in Monaghan abt 1886, according to the censuses in 1901 & 1911.

I've tried looking for a marriage with either maiden name around 1886, give or take a few years.  Nothing in Monaghan to Thomas Wright.  That's using familysearch.org and rootsireland.ie.  Not much chance of an Irish visit any time soon.

Unfortunately, Sarah died in 1901, just after the census, so she does not appear in 1911.  Therefore there is no mention of number of years married or children alive or dead.

Monaghan / Re: Surnames connected to others

I do seem to be getting myself in a muddle.  My husband is adamant that his great grandfather was born in Wexford.  He was R.C. and a joiner.

I'm having headaches with his wife, Sarah Boag, too.  Her name is on Thomas the son's birth certificate but I'm beginning to think her name should be 'Bogue' cos I've found a couple of births for her, about the right time according to her death certificate, in Monaghan: with different mothers.  Mind you, I'm still searching for their marriage.  I was so looking forward to rootsireland.ie putting the marriages for Monaghan on line but I can't find it.

Yes, the Wright families in Monaghan in the 1901 & 1911 censuses would appear to be mine as the children are correct.  Should I be able to take as gospel the birth counties, do you think?  I have seen the birth certificate for the son, (grandfather) Thomas Wright, who was born in Clinto(e), Monaghan in 1887.

I don't think the Thomas Wright that ebt47 has is _this_ Thomas Wright but there are so (too) many of them!  The next generation down is also Thomas Wright.

I think my tree is more simple cos it is all in England.  So far.

Thanks for people's help.  It's great to know there are clearer heads than mine out there.

Monaghan / Thomas WRIGHT & Sarah BOAG

Dear Dave,
Let's hope I get this right.  There is a pun there as the name I'm very interested in is on your list of names ... Wright.  My husband is part Irish and part Scottish but hails from Liverpool.
Currently I'm researching his Irish side: I have various Thomas Wrights and an Alice Brady.  Wonder if I'd be lucky enough to have stumbled on a long lost 19th cousin 5 times removed?
Thomas Wright (my hubby's great grandfather) was allegedly born in Wexford (though I wouldn't rule out Waterford) somewhere between 1859-1863.  He married Sarah Boag/Bogue and they had various children in Monaghan.  I've found them on the 1901 & 1911 Irish censuses.  He was a joiner by trade.
I don't suppose this rings any bells with you?
Regards,
Heather
