A google search shows him discharged from Broadmoor 21.11.1896 but there is a warning about the website when you click on the link.  It also says he was admitted to Broadmoor in 1889 - not 1887

That is very disappointing.  I would have hoped he would be imprisoned for life.  He was assessed as being insane.

Florence Kate Poysden was my 1st cousin 3 x removed.  She was murdered in 1887 by the lodger at her home.  She was only 15 years old.

Her murderer Charles Walter was sent to trial on 8/7/1887 accused of wilfull murder.  He was assessed as insane on arraignment and escaped hanging.

I am trying to find out what happened to him after that.  I don't know anything about him except from excerpts from newspapers.  He was 24 at the time and an Agricultural Labourer at Drayson Street Farm, Teynham, Kent.  In another article he is 28.

Florence was born 1872 in Faversham.  Parents George and Ann Poysden.

Can anybody see anything on him after the trial?

Thanks everybody for looking for me.  I can't see any link to my family.  It will have to remain a mystery as to why my Nan may have had the badge.

Can you see him in 1871?  I believe his parents to be Edward and Hannah because there is a workhouse admission with Edward, Hannah and 4 sons in 1871.

Family History Beginners Board / Mystery of Silver World War I Badge for James Iviss

Hi everyone.

It is a long time since I have been on the forum.

I am trying to solve a bit of a mystery. My Mum has given me a Silver World War I badge that was in my Nan's possession. The number of the badge is 323987 and I have found that it was issued to Sapper James Iviss Regimental No: 233989. I am trying to find out if there is any link to our family.

He was discharged in 1917 aged 49 place of birth listed as London.  I believe that he is James Ives born 1868 in St. Giles, but can's see him in the censuses.  Can anyone help?

Link to someone else who was looking for Mary Swepson Headland. Perhaps you could contact them to see if they have found any further information.

Thanks for all your help.  Can you see anything further on Fredericas sister Mary Swepson Headland.  She was baptised in 1833.  Parents Robert and Susannah Headland

I did think that Sarah Eliza Headland could have been the daughter of Frederica.  When I checked her birth on the GRO there is no mother's maiden name mentioned even though she is listed on the 1851 as the daughter of Robert.  What do you think?
