Hi Lyn, I am unsure if it is the same James Wallace that you are looking for however my great great grandfathers name is James Wallace from Ireland. I only have limited information on him however I believe he was born in Ireland in the 1820's and came to Australia somewhere in the 1840's. From here he travelled with the British army to New Zealand and fought in the war there which we believe was in Wanganui. In the 1850's he moved to Tasmania married and had I think four sons one who was also called James which was my great grandfather who named his son James Wallace who is my grandfather. My mother has all the information post New Zealand if this is of interest as I know very little and have only started looking into James as my mother asked me to as she has hit a brick wall. I would be happy to put you in touch with her.
