Hi BB,
Thanks for this.
We have a common ancestor in Robert Scrivener Graburn.
I sent you a personal message to connect.
Does your Graburn family have a similar " family legend" about being related to Lord Horatio Nelson theough the Graburn line ?

Family History Beginners Board / James Graburn (B: 1686) Beverley, Yorkshire
« on: Tuesday 22 November 11 05:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

Seeking information on parents of James Graburn (Bn: July 1686 in Beverely, Yorkshire).

James may have had a brother William.

James married Helen Nelson in 1715 and had number of children christened at St Mary & St Nicholas Church, Beverley.

I am interested in information on James' parents. I think his father is also a James Graburn (Born in 1654 in Beverley) and married Anne in 1685.

Does anyone have informaiton on James parents or siblings ?

All the best
Craig (Sydney)

Hi RK

Many thanks for your post. :)

I'm trying to connect with the Graburns in Canada who completed the study which traced our family line back past Marmaduke Nelson (b 1795) and connected to Horatio Nelson.

The similar post you found on Ancestry.com generated a response from Arthur Lynne Graburn (from last year) who mentioned one of the Canadian Graburns commissioning a geneology study.  I have been unable to connect with Arthur as he is no longer on Ancestry.com.

Also thanks for the link to Michael W Graburn who wrote a book on  "The early Graburns".  Any suggestions on how I trace him ?

The impetus for this is I'm working with my Dad to solve some of those family "mysteries". One of them - passed down through our Graburn line - is we are related to Lord Nelson (not sure - Iget sea sick - although hear he did too)

Appreciate any advice or suggestions
Craig

Many thanks to all for providing information - much appreciated !

Yes - this is also my Graburn line.
There seems to be an interesting story here.
There were two Graburn  brothers -  Marmaduke (born about 1795) and Robert Scrivener Graburn (born about 1803).
3 or 4 of Marmaduke's sons (including Christopher and Marmaduke emigrated to Ottawa, Canada). Their cousins (3 or Robert's sons) - including William Graburn (Bn 1830) - emigrated to New Zealand and then to Fiji. There must have been an adventurous spirit at that time !

I have traced their ancestors up to James Graburn (B: 1686 in Beverley, Yorkshire) who married Helen Nelson.

Another distant relative, Arthur Lynn Graburn II (who is - I think - a descendent of Christopher Graburn) said someone had published a family tree going back to the 1600's which found a link with Lord Horatio Nelson.  This "legend" had also been passed down my family line.

Does anyone know anything about this family history study on the Graburn line ?
All the best

Hi all,
My ancestor - William Graburn (B Lincolnshire, 1830) - and his brothers emigrated to New Zealand, then to Fiji and onto Australia.
Another group of brothers went to Canada.
I;m keen to connect with folk from this Graburn line . I also understand there has been a family history produced of this line which goes back to Yorkshire and Norfolk in the 1600's.
Kind regards
