My sister in law is the grand-daughter of William Lane Lewis through his son Noel William Lewis 1925-2017, known as Dick. The daughter of Dick's elder brother, Gordon Lane Lewis, is tracing the family history so if you have any specific questions, I would be happy to pass them on.
Dick and his other brother John Richard Lewis ran the family's BSA Motorcycle shop in Weybridge until his retirement in 1987. They were the third generation and had previously dealt in bicycles and sewing machines.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Gloucester Archives - Cheltenham Workhouse - Apr-Jun 1904 - Barton

If anyone is visiting the Gloucester Archives in the near future, would you be able to do a search of Cheltenham Workhouse Admission Registers between 25 April and 2 June 1904. It appears that they still exist for this period - with gaps!
Edith Kate Barton (b. 1879, Cheltenham)
Sydney Owen Barton (b. 14 April 1904, Alderton)
25 April 1904 - Mother and son taken from Alderton to Winchcombe Workhouse (records destroyed in a fire)
?? Transferred from Winchcombe to Cheltenham Workhouse
2 June 1904 - Son baptised at Cheltenham St Paul Church - address Cheltenham Workhouse
By the 1911 Census they were living in London where fortunately they both thrived! If you have time for further searches, it would also be interesting to discover when and under what circumstances they moved from Gloucestershire.

What can I say - you guys are amazing!
It's a very sad end to the story, as expected, but I am still pleased to have found out what happened to her. It is apparent that there were no children but I will at least try to contact some Godden relatives.
John & Beryl had sent some photos of themselves to my grandmother, Elizabeth (the Leba mentioned in the death notice) as late as the 1960's and I am sure they would have mentioned children if they had any. (Should have done more research before posting the topic, of course).
Therefore, with grateful thanks, I think we can now close this topic.

While looking through old photographs this afternoon, we came across a note saying that Jane McLeod "married a professional golfer and died".
That would seem to suggest that she didn't have children either and we will be looking for a different surname on the death certificate.

John would have been 33 when he married in 1939 and then of course he was in the forces for some years so it is quite possible that there weren't any children.
As it is such an unusual combination of forenames, I've googled "Beryl Nerissa" and absolutely zilch!
Perhaps we will have more luck with his sister, Jane, although I imagine that tracking her down will present more of a challenge ...!

Having their occupations and Beryl's maiden name is a bonus - I didn't know if she was Scottish or Australian but the latter is looking more probable.
Would any children living at home be added when they reached 18/21?

Dundee and Newport are at either end of the Tay Bridge so it is the same person! (His father was Signalman at Wormit Station on the south side for many years).

Here is the WWII nominal roll for a chap in the Royal Australian Air Force.

It seems possible that there’s two chaps with same name, same date of birth, and same name for next of kin. Different place of birth, and different place of enlistment.
The National Archives of Australia website has separate (not yet examined) files for each of these two RAAF chaps. It will be interesting if it turns out to be just one chap.

I would be really interested to find out if my grandmother's brother and sister who emigrated to Australia - separately - in the 1920's have any living relatives.
Their parents were Peter McLeod and Christina (nee Reith).
John McLeod. Born Newport, Fife on 6th January 1906. Departed from London to Melbourne on 15th January 1924 aboard the MORETON BAY with his occupation given as Labourer. The only Australian record I have found online is an index of his Army Service Record from 1939-1948 which spells his last name as Macleod and confirms his wife's name as Beryl - about the only fact that we already knew. The place of enlistment was Esperance, WA - something of a surprise as the family story was that he settled in Townsville! I have ordered this from the National Archives but as the status is "not yet examined" it may not be available for 90 days.

Departed from London to Melbourne on 24th May 1928 aboard the SS BERRIMA intending to settle in Australia and we are fairly certain that she did. Her occupation was given as a Typist. We don't know where she lived or whether or not she married and had children.
If any kind person out there in RootsChat land can offer and help or guidance it would be greatly appreciated. I have researched most other branches quite extensively but until now this has been a genealogical "black hole"!
