Wiltshire / Thomas Brickett (Mayor of Salisbury: 1519)
« on: Monday 23 January 12 20:23 GMT (UK)  »
Good day,

I am researching the 'Brickett' family tree. My grandfather's research highlighted that there was a Thomas Brickett who was a mayor of Salibsury in 1519. There was another Brickett who was a mayor of Salibsury in 1630. I am interested in seeing how he rest of my family tree links in with this Thomas Brickett.

Interestingly, Thomas Brickett was the founder of a charity that built an alm's house for the use of 5 poor men or woman. I have a photograph of the plaque in Salibsury commemorating the event. The alms houses are situated in Dragon street, Salisbury. The alms houses were built in 1534.

I suspect that Thomas may have had a son called Robert. I have no further information and was wondering if anyone had any further information?

Please note that I previously posted the same message into another filed - anyone with information to please respnd to this message.

Thanks!

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the note. I am very new to roots chat - my first use of it some months ago has been unbelievably fruitful and hence want to try and start using it more going forward.

Was wondering if you could help me with the following questions:

- have you moved this question to Wiltshire (on roots chat)? If not, how do I move it?
- I struggled (stll working out the site) to know how to create a new thread. What is the best way to do it going forward?

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Regards
Stevie

Hi Ermy

Thank you for your advice.

My grandfather did some reasearch into this particular Thomas Brickett some years back when he was in the UK and was researching the rest of the family tree. Our family tree currently goes back to the 1500's with much of the 1500-1700 information being obtained from correspondence with researchers in the US and particularly Canada. We do have solid information (BMD, census, bapitsm and other docs) confirming the tree thereafter. We are researching a number of different areas of the tree at the moment, this being one of them. I am also particularly interested in understanding how the UK Brickett family name links in with that of the US (with information on the US side on its way shortly to me).

As mentioned, my grandfather appeared to have staretd to get some useful information but never did link it in with our existing tree. Our surname is rather unusual and hence feel that there must be a link.

Please don't get me wrong - this is not about linking in famous people into my tree - it is all about linking in areas of interest (the photos I have of the hospital that he opened) with my tree and understanding where our roots lie.

Holding my fingers for information.

Thanks for our advice and your prompt rely - much appreciated.

Regards
Stevie

Good day,

My name is Stephen and we are currently researching our Brickett family tree, taking over from where my grandfather left off. We have a number of records, photos and documents pertaining to Walter Septimus Brickett. We have noted that he married an Ethel Brickett and we are battlingto get any information on her other than that they had a daughter, Kathleen Brickett. What information do you have that you can share with us, photos, birth and death certificates etc etc.

Walter is my great great grandfather.

Regards
Stephen
