World War One / Re: concert parties
« on: Thursday 05 May 11 20:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi
My great Grand uncle was in the First World War he joined the army went to France then came back with Flu. Whist in Hospital recovering the Army found out that he was under age and decided that he could join a Concert Party Sir Sedrick Harwick was recrutting. My great Uncle became great friends with him. The concert party was called the Wing Boys. He learnt to play the saxaphone. My great uncle stayed there until the War ended but still played his Saxaphone in the clubs in the evenings and worked during the day until his death in 1959 where he was found in his office. Sir Hardwick wanted my great uncle to go to LOndon and seek thier fortune my uncle declind and sir harwick went on to become famose and also Knighted.
I can not find any records of any concert parties. I do have photos of the Wing boys.
regards Angie.

Norfolk / Re: Can not find birth registry

Thank you for your responce. William did not seem to have middle name as far as we know as his son also William never had a middle name. Yes I did see that there was a birth in Depwade in the 3q but I am not sure that it is him as he is down to have his birthday in May. but that is not to say it is not him.Unless there is a way to look at the birth cert before I buy it, it will have to waite till I have proof otherwise. I did also find him on the census. We know that he joined the Royal Navy in 1899. Perhaps he joined because his father had just died (1899) leaving his step mother Mary Ann.  One day I will get to the bottom of this puzzle. Thanks again.

Norfolk / Can not find birth registry
« on: Monday 16 June 08 17:11 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to look for my gt Grandfather William Riches. birth registry. I have been looking on other sites for Vol and page no., but can not find him anywhere. Does anybody know why I can not find him. From his Police service records it gave his date of birth and place of birth. 25.5.1878 Earsham. I know that his father name was James. the ages on both marriage and Death certificate corrisponse with the year he was born. We also can not locate his Navy records and according to his Polce service he was in the Navy at Chatham.
Can any body shed some light on to this.
any suggestion would be gratefully recieved.

Hi Mogsmum
I would be very intersted in to what you have on the Finch. I will show my dad everything that you have posted on here to see if it jogs his memory or my Uncle who is a few years older than my dad to see if he remembers anything more. But when I spoke to Dad last night he said that the Barge business was definatly at the bottom of Medway street on the river quey.
Sorry that we don't know any more than I have already told you other than the fact that the business must of exsist.
regards
Angie.

Hi Mogsmum
I think I have finally found a connection with the Maidstone Building and barge bussiness. My 2x Great grandmothers name was Harriett Finch who maried a James White.  Her father was Thomas Finch he may well be the brother of your Edward Finch. I have been searching for a long time trying to find the connection. The story that we have is that my Great grandmother Mary Emily daughter of Harriett and James knew all the waterman etc on the Maidstone warf. we knew there was a barge business there at medow bank about where Edward and Martha were living in Medway street. but the story that we were told that the Council or Goverment diddle them out of the land so that the elcetric company could have the land. Have you ever heard of this story.
It would be another brick wall distroyed if only I could make this connection . I think it is a strong possiblity that Edward and Thomas were brothers as they were both in Maidstone, Thomas living at King Street  with his wife Mary. and they had a son Edward.
Hope you may be able to shed some light. alas I have no more information than this or where to go for it.

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Maidstone Grave look up Happy Granny
« on: Tuesday 19 September 06 17:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi Casalaguidi
Thank you for information I did get a response from Vinters Park Maidstone. I have found my other great grandparents and their 16 year old daughter grave not far from my cousin. Vinters Park provided me with a map. I was not charged anything because I had dates and names of when they died. I did find my other Great grandfather George Spice, his story was in the local newspaper archives in our library, we sussed out roughly the year span and went from their alas I did not pursue it any further of yet as my Dad and I got caught up in refurbishing the graves but I will be going back to Vinters Park to find him
Many thanks fro your help
Angie
