The Common Room / Re: registry of shipping and seamen (TNA ref: BT114/3)

Thank you Bookbox.  With your instructions I found The entry for No: 451548 in FindMyPast.
Appreciate your help.

Yesterday I visited FindMyPast again and found the entry you mention here.  John Campbell  No: 451548  (Page 232)

As I have already said, BT 114 is the index only. The Seaman's Ticket is in BT 113/226. The ticket can be seen on FindMyPast.

From the menu choose Search, then All Record Sets.
Choose the record set Britain,  Merchant Seamen 1835-1857.

In the First Name box, enter John.
In the Last Name box, enter Campbell.
In the Series box, enter Bt113 (no space, allow it to autofill).
In the Keyword box, enter Dundee.
Don't enter anything else.
Click Search.
There is only 1 result.

The above method should enable you to see the ticket for John Campbell No: 451548 in BT 113/226. It is on folio 194. It is image 390 of 516, in case that helps.

Whether this is your man is, of course, another question.

Searching through Mystic Seas and Crew List I've found a Ship Roebuck ON60794, 167 Tons built in Dundee Scotland 1869 and operating out of Boston.   In 1879/1880 the Master was a John Campbell.
Can anyone give me any details of John Campbell?

Hi Bookbox,
Thanks for your interest.  Yesterday I visited FindMyPast again and found the entry you mention here.  John Campbell  No: 451548  (Page 232)..  Alas nothing more.   Had hoped finding ancestors Seamans Ticket number may have helped in my more than 20 year search for his death.  Thanks again to you and to Rosie99 for your help.

BT 114 is the index to BT 113. You won't find any details in BT 114 beyond the ticket no. and place of birth, which you already have.

Instead, you may want to look (on FindMyPast) at BT 113/226, which is the ticket for John Campbell 451548.

Tried FindMyPast without success.  Will try again
Found this information a few years ago.
Having trouble now trying to locate it once more.

It looks as though it is downloadable to FindMyPast.  You should be able to set up a free account on that site and purchase what you want by micropayment

Hi Rosie,  Thanks for these replies.   Will look at Johan Linn as you suggest.
Is it possible that parents name may be Joanna Lundie.  Found with a Maria on 1881 Census at 22 Laing Street, Dundee.  Also found Ann Linn Patons death on Find my Grave with daughter Margaret died December 1918

clancam37.
Johann Linn birth 1855. Part information on family search.

As I thought I think there were several children born illegitimate to Maria Linn
They can be found on census records with Maria and her parents in Dysart

Good morning,  Is it possible the parents name could be Joanna Lundie?

This is a really tiny scan.

Are you able to scan just the word/s that are problematic at the highest and best scan, or divide it into parts and put them up.

Thanks

As the others have said image a bit small to read ?
For reference only looking at the marriages 1903 I can see 2 with a middle name beginning with a L

Is it Annie Linn Campbell who married a Oliver Johnston Paton ?

This Ann Linn Campbell died 1918 Bonnyrigg

Birth for Ann Linn Campbell 1880 Dundee

This Annie can be found on the 1901 census 10 Hillhead Bonnyrigg with her grandmother Maria Campbell Annie's occupation carpet setter which matches occupation on marriage
