My grandmother was Bridget's sister Ellen.
Years ago when I started looking at our family history I tried to find as much information as possible on Henry and Jane's children.
The information I found on Bridget was very limited. Your great grandmother Ilma (1913-1983) married Mr Hughes in 1938. I could only find a record for the birth of a daughter Aileen. Was Aileen your grandmother Pam?
I feel very sad to hear that your grandmother and great grandmother spent their lives on the streets. I hadn't heard the story of the great uncle who died in very sad circumstances. Do you know his name and when this occurred
My grandmother Ellen married my grandfather John Edward Olsen in 1907 and lived the rest of her life on a farm at Oakagee near Geraldton. My mother was one of their 10 children. During her lifetime my mother never spoke of her indigenous heritage. The only family member she mentioned was Henry and Jane's son Tom (1882-1963). As a kid growing up in Perth we spent a lot of time with our aunts and uncles and their families when they visited us. I was always fascinated by the different complexions of the aunts and uncles. Grandfather Olsen was born in Sweden. In looking at our family history and finding information on Jane explained this.
I haven't done much family history research in the past couple of years due to my own family commitments. I was trying to find more information on Henry Aubrey but have come to a dead end.

Hi Lisa and Maddie

A few years ago I was visiting my brother who at that time was living in Kalgoorlie/Boulder. I visited other graves of family members and I also visited the grave of your Great Grandmother Millie (Millie was my Grandmother Ellen's sister). Millie was buried in the Boulder Cemetery. I have attached a photo of Millie's grave.

I remember your mother and Frank from my childhood. Your grandmother (my Aunty Edie) was my mother's sister. I remember Aunty Edie being a great cook. I have been looking at our family history for many years and have a lot of information on our side of the family. Good on you for visiting Henry's grave at Yalgoo. I now live in NSW but it has always been in my plans to visit Yalgoo and Henry's grave when I am in WA.

I'm sorry I am unable to help you with your missing link to your grandfather's story, but you have answered a query I had regarding my own family connection to William Pearce and Annie.

My great grandparents were Henry and Jane. Their daughter Elllen was my grandmother. If Annie was Jane's daughter this makes her my grandmother's sister/half sister and my mother your grandfather's 1st cousin. On Ancestry DNA I have links to descendants of William Pearce and Annie so of course this explains the connection.

Moore River Native Settlement was established in 1917 and the first residents arrived in 1918. I wonder if the State Records Office in Perth have any records on the early residents of the settlement. Might be worth checking out.

I have a book named 'Yalgoo' written by Alex Palmer and published in 1985 which tells the story on pages 4 and 5 of William Pearce and his involvement in the discovery of gold in Yalgoo in 1892.

 

A English passenger named Henry ABERY, aged 26 years, travelled from Melbourne to Hobart Town on the barque Oceanica on the 29 September 1852.

This Henry Abery would have been born around 1826-27.

Over the years I have searched variations of the spelling of Aubrey but have not found anything. I always wondered why a 15 year old boy (born in 1837) would come to Australia on his own in 1852.

An item in the Geraldton Express of Friday, 27 December 1907, page 4, in a column called Yalgoo Yappings said:

"Harry Aubery, an old identity of the district, died last night (Sunday) after a short illness. Deceased was 70 years of age, and had been about the district for the last fifty years. He leaves a family of one son and three or four daughters, none of whom were near enough to get here in time for the funeral, which took place today."

I will do some more research and post any information I find.
