Can you give some more information on the names and dates of the Rouses in the Bible? Are any locations mentioned at all? Thanks.

World War Two / Re: Stalag 383

My Uncle was Reginald William Spink (known as Bill) and was the radio operator in Stalag 383. As I only knew him in later life, I have no idea how he looked during the war (age 31 to 37 approx.) He may well be in the on-line photos, but I have no idea which one might be him.

Anyone who might be able to point him out, would be of great help! Thanks.

Don't know if it would help, but from somewhere, way back when, I've got George's name as George Lovell Foster.

Am still trying to find out what happened to Catherine Merritt, who is in the 1861 census for Bramdean but then disappears.
I have tried her name with various spellings to no avail.
A few people have suggested she died in Bramdean in 1863 but I have been unable to find the exact reference of her death, so I could buy a death certificate and no-one else seems to have an exact reference either, other than Bramdean, 1863.
Anyone any ideas?

Somerset / Re: Avon Street, Walcot, Bath
« on: Thursday 22 November 12 21:15 GMT (UK)  »
An ancestor of mine, Daniel Earley, born in Bath, is listed in the 1841 census, aged ten, as living in Avon Street, in a household of eleven. The head of the household is listed as Charles Francis, chimney sweep and I think Daniel was a sweep also.

In the 1871 census, Daniel states that he was born in Bath Market.

Can anyone give me any information on where the market would have been in about 1831 and what sort of market it would have been?

In 1841 it would appear his father Thomas Erly,45 (labourer) and sister Charlotte (15)were also in Avon Street, in a different house.

Earley at various times has been spelt Earley/Erly/Early/Hurley and Aerley.

Do you have a date for her death?

Have looked at Bramdean 1863 but have been unable to find it, quite a few times and on various sites!

Thanks.
Judy

Hi Geoff

It's nice to 'speak' to a descendant of Catherine and Stephen!

What's puzzled me for quite a while, is whilst they are both in the 1861 census, they seem to disappear then - particularly Catherine. I have seen the 1863 date suggested for her death before, but on every ancestry site I've researched on, I can't find a date or place of death for Catherine Merritt.

I've looked at various spellings of Merritt and tried Norgate and Moran too, to no avail. I presume they were still in the Hinton Ampner/Bramdean area after 1861, but can't track her death date there or anywhere else.

Anyone found it?

Catherine and William had three children, William (b1814 in the UK), Catherine(Caroline) (b1816) and Henry (b 1818). Catherine(Caroline) and Henry were both born in France.

William and Catherine were my 3xgreat grandparents.

Tipperary / Moran-Clonmel
« on: Friday 14 October 11 10:48 BST (UK)  »
An ancestor of mine, Catherine Moran, came from Ireland, possibly Clonmel.
She was born about 1789/1791, and at some point she met an English soldier, William Norgate, of the 11th Light Dragoons. She followed him to England and married him in Wyke, Weymouth, in December 1810.

It's been suggested to me that the 11th Light Dragoons were in Clonmel presumably about 1805/1810 and I wondered if anyone could confirm that for me? It would at least show they were at the same place at the same time, though how they would have met, I have no idea!

Any info on Catherine or the 11th Light Dragoons will be gratefully received!

You could try Romsey or Fordingbridge.

I have a Sally/Sarah  Rogers, born 1784, I think from Hampshire, working in Salisbury just before her marriage in 1817.
