The Common Room / Re: Coroner's report - what are the chances?

Was the death in Flintshire? You just said Wales. If in Flint, the URL you had referred to the records in Mold ().
There is a book which describes Coroners records for each county in England and Wales, giving years available and where located. The book is:

Title           Coroners' Records in England and Wales
Authors   Jeremy Sumner Wycherley Gibson and Colin Rogers
Edition   2
Publisher   Genealogical Publishing Company, 1998
ISBN           0806315628,    9780806315621
OCLC       229216243
Length   48 pages

Canada / Re: New Family Search and old IGI
« on: Friday 28 September 12 22:13 BST (UK)  »
I just tried it for marriages and it did work. That is, from the home page for FamilySearch, I entered a name, clicked on marriage event, entered a country and year range, and clicked search. The results included several marriages from the collection "England, Marriages, 1538-1973," which is how the IGI is shown as a record collection.

I believe the general search from the "home" page does include IGI search.

Two clarifications.
First, to find the "old IGI," click on "All Record Collections" just under Browse by Location," then scroll down to the I's, where the IGI will be listed.
After you click on it, you can search either the contributed data or the extracted data separately.
Second, the old IGI data is included in the general search results. It is in with other results, listed as "[country], [record types], [range of years]", for example
England, Births and Christenings, 1538-1975

The new site is vastly more powerful than the old one--you just have to get used to using the various filters. There's an online class on the FamilySearch Learn tab that explains how to use it.

You've already received your answer, but for future reference:
You don't need to go to the old catalog to find batch numbers or film numbers. Both searches are available on familysearch.org. When you found Walter Joss, it gave a batch number and film number. Highlight and copy the film number, then click on the familysearch logo at the top left, then click "catalog" (across the top). In the pull down box for search type, select "film number", then paste in the film number. It then gives you the catalog record for that film (see http://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/show?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fcatalog-search-api%3A8080%2Fwww-catalogapi-webservice%2Fitem%2F674647).

One suggested improvement for familysearch is to make the film number a link to the catalog so you don't have to copy and paste, but that's not there yet.
