Hi Ali - me again.    There is a John Etherington who is the current Chairman of Midhurst Town Council.   His name pops up in the local press quite often.  Because my link to the Etheringtons is so small, I've not got in touch with him.  But you have a stronger reason I'd have thought.

Geoff

Oh - forgot to say - I got a lot of information by looking at the parish records for Lurgashall that are kept at the West Sussex Record Office in Chichester.  Easy for me because I live nearby but worth a visit if you can.  Geoff

Hello - I had my first post last October - good to have a follow up.   My gg grandmother was Jane Etherington born 1820.  She had a sister Harriet born 1822 and a brother William born 1824.   She became a Steele by marriage and is buried, alongside her husband, in Milford churchyard.  So -if you have either Harriet or William in your history, then you and are related.  all best Geoff

Hello - I'm new to RootsChat - it came up when I put Etherington into Google.  My great great grandmother was Jane Etherington born in Lurgashall in 1820.  I think her father was William Etherington.   She married Henry Steele.  She died in 1886 and is buried in Milford churchyard.

I'd be fascinated to know whether she is in your family tree also.

many thanks

Geoff Farrell
