Hi Dave

This is a long time after your enquiry (about 10 years), but I DO have information about John Rivor, his first wife Mary Ann, his second, Laura Burns and some of his descendants.  If you receive this message, I can go ahead and give you that information.
Cheers

Shropshire Completed Look up Requests / Re: 1851 census - Dolphin, Condover

Hi Samantha

Also very good to hear from you.  We are certainly distantly related.  I'm descended from Richard Patteshall Bromley and his first wife, Eliza Dolphin (Emma's sister, as I expect you know).  So we both have the Dolphins and the Bromleys in our ancestry.  My ancestor was Richard's and Eliza's first daughter, Mary Ann, who migrated to Australia with her husband, Benjamin Joseph Woodhouse, in 1901.  I live in Australia.

I found Sarah Emma on my family history database, but I have no other information about her or her descendants, except for her marriage to Joseph William Dawson.  I'd be very interested to see what you have and to share what I know about the family (I have quite a database by now!).

Can we communicate by private email?  I'm happy to do so.  I don't know how to go about giving you my private email address on Rootsweb without it being open to the public.  Do you have any ideas on this?  Looking forward to hearing back from you.
Very best wishes

Hi Sam

Hope you get this message - I was exploring Google and happened upon you on Rootsweb and some messages you sent in 2005.  I am also descended from Edward Dolphin and Richard Bromley and can send you lots of interesting reports about them.  I'm assuming we have not been in contact before?
Please reply if you are able and we can share some information.
Best wishes

Wexford / Ithermine - was it Edermine or Ardamine?
« on: Monday 30 March 09 05:10 BST (UK)  »
Hello listers

I have been researching a Nicholas Murphy who served in the East India Company from 1824-1842 in Bengal.  His parish of birth was written as Ithermine, Wexford.  There does not appear to be any place of that name, so I am assuming that it would be Edermine or Ardamine - any coments on which might be the more likely?

Hi Lynwen

Indigo in Victoria is a real place.  It is around 15 km west of Wodonga and was featured in the gold rush days when gold was discovered there in 1858.  Some of my ancestors lived there for a short time.

Hello Anne

I was just glancing through some of my old messages, and I noted that you said your family was Hotchkiss from Shropshire.  It turns out that there are quite a lot of Hotchkiss folk connected with my family in Shropshire - I only discovered that recently.

These appear on the family tree of one of my cousins, of which I have a copy.  Maybe they are your people?  Im not quite sure how we can check - perhaps yu can give me some names and I can see if they are on the tree?

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Re: Was Bewdley in Warwickshire in 1835?
« on: Monday 04 September 06 13:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi again Valda

Thanks for looking these up - yes it seems that the Bentleys are going to be difficult to find.  I can't find any reference as to when they came to Australia, either.

With regard to First World War soldiers records, are you using the following websites?

Australian War Memorial www.awm.gov.au  If you check under Biographical Data Base and search categories such as Nominal Rolls and Roll of Honour, you may well find your relatives and some details about them.  For instance I  found out when a relative sailed for Gallipoli.

National Australian Archives www.naa.gov.au  These actually have the war service records and some of these have been digitised and are on line - so you may find records there.  Alternatively they will give you details of how to order records.  I have obtained two sets of records from them and they are reasonably comprehensive and not expensive.

Hello Valda

That was very kind of you to look up the censuses.

John Bentley would not appear on them because, according to the information I have, his family migrated to Australia in 1848.

I don't suppose you have access to the 1841 Census?  I will be able to check that census myself, as soon as I can get to our large National Library, which, luckily is in the state where I live (Australian Capital Territory).

Anyway, just in case you have easy access to the 1841 Census, he was called John Charles Bentley and his parents were John and Caroline (nee Green) Bentley.  I have no information about siblings.

Is there anything I can look up for you in Australia?

Best wishes

Hello Valda

Thanks for your response.  I assumed that it was the case.

I'll check Bentley or Worcestershire.
