Hi,
found your posts during my search for the Pollard and Denholm side of my family.
I know that in 1884 my great uncle Robert Pollard who died in WW1 was born at Entryfoot.

So it was very interesting for me to see the cottages which remain, have hit a brick wall with the Pollards as they spent tim in Nova Scotia Canada, where  my GGGF was born in 1820, coming 'home' to Scotland, settling and having a family in the Torphicen/Armadale area, he lived till he was 79/80 years of age, now buried in Shotts cemetry.

Any further info much appreciated...
Sheila

Hi Janice,

Thanks...I'd already used all your links and trawled through hours of passenger lists and census etc etc.
My problem is ofcourse having little to go on!

I think he may have been born in Halifax this was from a strange reference I found on a scottish census later in his life stating he was born in 'Daridace' which ofcourse does not exist...I have presumed that this was down to a 'bad recorder', misunderstanding the local Scottish accent.
Thanks for your help though...

I thought I'd made a breakthrough when you said there were only 6 left in 18??, thinking you must be able to take that back a generation or two.
C'est la vie!

Kind regards
Sheila

Hi This is really for Janice ref post of 2005,

I know that a few years have passed since your posts on the POLLARDS of Nova Scotia. I've hit a real wall...Looking for William Pollard born Nova Scotia 1819/20 perhaps in Halifax. His mother Mary, (nee Strathern or Strathearn) father also William Pollard both Scottish (I think).

Young William, my GGGF 'returned' to Scotland as a young man, married Elizabeth Mcpherson and settled in the Torphicen/Armadale area near to Edinburgh. He in turn had a son William.

Nova Scotia William died at the age of 79/80 years of age and is buried in a 'lair' in Schotts churchyard near to Armadale.

My mother's really getting on now and due to a family glitch knows nothing of her past...can you help?

best wishes
sheila
