Yorkshire (West Riding) / Baptism Death images for Dent Sedbergh
« on: Saturday 22 March 25 23:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I am on the hunt to find the original baptism/death images for Dent Sedbergh area between 1780 to 1804ish.
On Findmypast they only have the transcript.

Would anyone know if these are available at the archives or online anywhere? And if so where.

Thank you
Regards Red3

Found the marriage bond for Isabella Taylor and Thomas Capstick on ancestry.

The marriage bond has their baptism record attached which reads:

Isabella daughter of Ann Taylor baptized 18 March 1792 Tatham in Lancashire

Thomas son of Thomas Capstick of Windy Hill Laborer and Mary his wife November 9th 1794 Dent Sedbergh West Riding Yorkshire.

This is a very nice find!  Now to track down Thomas and Mary of Sedbergh.

Hi
At Lancashire Archives they have a "Certificate" in there collection dated 15 May 1824.

The description reads:  Thomas Capstick of Wray with Bolton, Husbandman is fit and proper person to keep The Punch Bowl Wennington.  Witnessed
John Tatham Vicar
Henry Briscoe Warden
John Dugdale Overseer
Richard Atkinson
J.B Leeming
Chris Wilson
William Wildman **
Sureties: Christopher Sidgewick of Melling Husbandman

Would this document have any more information on it that what is transcribed in the description?

The name William Wildman also a witness to the wedding of Thomas Capstick to Isabella Taylor.

I believe that  Isabella was born to Ann Taylor and baptised at the Church of the Good Shepard in Tatham 18 March 1792.  Ann Taylor married Thomas Wildman 21 April 1792 at Tatham.

The Lancashire Gazette dated 25 Jan 1823 has marriage announcement - Thomas Capstick of Hall Barns to Isabella the eldest daughter of Mr Thomas Wildman Master of the Free Grammar School High Bentham.
Ann's father Thomas Wildman died 13 Oct 1825 aged 58 yrs.  Lancashire Archives has will dated 6 March 1826.

Still no closer to solving where Thomas Capstick was from.

Hi
For the birth of Thomas Capstick I have 2 possible:

Thomas and Betty Capstick parents of Thomas Capstick born 23 March 1793 chris. 5 May 1793 at St John Preston Lancashire.

OR

Edward and Jane Capstick parents of Thomas Capstick born 29 Nov 1795 at Dent Yorkshire.

There is another possible
Thomas and Mary Capstick parents of Thomas Capstick born 9 Nov 1794 at Dent Yorkshire
Trees online have this Thomas married to Jane Greenwood 12 May 1821 at Dent Yorkshire.

I did wonder if this Thomas who married Jane Greenwood was the child of Edward and Jane Capstick?
AS the Thomas and Jane combination have there oldest child - Edward born 28 Oct 1821 Dent.

Tatham Fells Burial record 1760-1837
20 Nov 1825 Thomas Capstick Wennington Melling  aged 31
10 April 1834 Isabella Gardner Wennington            aged 41

I think this will be Isabella.  And this is likely to be her 2nd husband

Oliver Gardner aged 33 years,
abode Wennington,
buried 1st October 1833,

Just found Tatham Fell Burial 1760-1837
It has Thomas Capstick of Whennington Melling aged 31
and listed under him is
Isabella Gardner of Whennington aged 41

So that is likely to be him with his widow.

Do you think his birth is likely to be in the Whennington Melling area?

Lancashire / Thomas Capstick around 1823

Hi
I am needing some help or ideas on how to trace Thomas Capstick.
This is all I have:
Marriage bond - Thomas Capstick of Barn Halls Farm Tatham aged 28  to Isabella Taylor of Melling aged 30 date issued 16 January 1823.  (Lancashire Archives)

Married 18 January 1823 at Melling near Hornby Lancashire
Thomas Capstick - Husbandman of the Parish of Tatham to Isabella Taylor spinster of parish.
Witness William Wildman and John Grime.

Christening of Mary Ann Capstick 20 Sept 1823 at Melling near Hornby Lancashire.
(Mary Ann Capstick later married and on the certificate she states her father as Thomas Capstick - Innkeeper)

Only one child found from Thomas and Isabella.

Remarriage of Isabella Capstick to Oliver Gardner (Wood Monger) 23 April 1829. at Melling Lancashire.

I can not find Thomas Capstick's death - which must be between 1823 to 1829 or birth about 1795.

Any ideas on how to trace Thomas Capstick would be very helpful.

Note I have plenty of information on his daughter Mary Ann and wife Isabella. Thanks
