I do not know of any central records and I believe most of these name changes were just the new name used in everyday life.

I my wifes tree the name change is Levi to Salter around 1907 in London. I have not been able to find any records but that it also conincided with a move to a new house.

Thank for the reply.

Yes I have gone through the William Tylers in the 1901 and 1911 census. Most are easily eliminated but one or two still remain but seem unlikely. I do not have the death cert for Rosina mainly since she is a rather distant relative not on my direct line. It is, however, one of my brick walls and I may have to invest in the certificate.

I have tried to find the burial via seax and have tried to contact several possible cemeteries without success.

t mo, where did you look to find the maritime deaths ?

Thanks philipsearching.

Sadly, your post sums up exactly where I am. All of the William Tyler's appear unlikely. The sea death is possible. I did have a quick look in the british newspaper archives for deaths around this time but without adding credit. Nothing caught my eye though. Next time I pay for a time I will have a more thorough look.

Does anybody have burial indexes which might either help identify William or the burial of his wife ?

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I did have a quick look at this one but I believe it is most likely William Tyler born 1845 which doesn't fit.

Essex / Where and when did he die ?
« on: Tuesday 10 July 12 10:29 BST (UK)  »
William Tyler was born in 1867 in Ardleigh, Essex. 1881 census shows him at 53 Lower Heath, Wivenhoe, Essex. He marries ont he 9 Oct 1892 St Thomas, Stepney to Rosina Charlotte Lamb where his address is listed as 16 Park Street, Stepney and his occupation Steward. On 24 Jan 1893 Phyllis Tyler is born and 30 Jul 1893 she is baptised at St Mary Magdalene, East Ham where address is listed as Plaistow and William's occupation as ship's steward. Rosina died Q1 1893 during child's birth but I do not know where she is buried.

The question is, when and where did William Tyler die ? Discussions within family indicate he died soon afterwards but where ? The daughter is living with a relative in the 1901 and 1911 census.

What happened to William ? All ideas appreciated.

World War One / Is this the right J Jukes
« on: Friday 20 April 12 11:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
One of my brickwalls has always been what happened to Joseph Mountford Jukes. He was born on the 10 Apr 1877 in Wordsley, Kingswinford to Samuel Jukes and Ann Bullas. Until 1901 he remained in the Wordsley area before marrying on the 12 Nov 1905 to Lucy Beresford in St Peter and St Paul;s Church in Aston, Birmingham. With Lucy he had three children, the last on the 21 Feb 1911. The 1911 census shows him as Joseph Jukes living in Stafford Road, Cannock with occupation Coal Miner.

In 1917 Lucy Jukes remarries in Lancashire.

What happened to Joseph ? There are no obvious deaths but there is one record I always come back to which is death of Joseph Jukes on the 19 Dec 1914 in France:
UK Soldiers died in the Great War, 1914-1919 about Joseph Jukes:
Name: Joseph Jukes
Birth place: Birmingham
Death date: 19 Oct 1914
Death location: France & Flanders
Enlistment location: Birmingham, Warwicks
Rank: Cororal
Regiment: Royal Hose Artillery and Royal Field Artillery
Number: 52915
Type of casualty: Killed in action
Theatre of war: Western European Theatre

Does anybody have any ideas as to how I can proove whether this is "my" Joseph Jukes ?

The Common Room / Re: can you trust the information on a marriage certificate
« on: Friday 02 March 12 09:32 GMT (UK)  »
I got a GRO marriage cert back two weeks ago for a line I was just trying to finish off and was surprised to see both the father's name wrong (Frank instead of John) and listing him as deceased.
After much reconsidering and the ordering of other certs, I have come to the conclusion he must have been trying to disown his childhood, since his father had been a well known drunk. Surprising since most people seem to own up to things on the official docs which don't come out anywhere else.
Luckily the death cert gives date of birth and also had his wife as informant.

Australia / Re: Proof that he went to the Victoria Gold Rush
« on: Thursday 01 March 12 05:41 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you all enormously for your help.
I think where I went wrong here was that Isaac had a ticket of leave from 1848 which I believed restricted him but, although I had the docs, I did not realise the significance of the conditional pardon in 1949, which lead me to be looking after his certificate of freedom for his first travel.
Judb: Thanks, yes Isaac Tyler and Minnie were his son and daughter-in-law
johngirl: Yes I have seen that link but Isaac and his brother seem to have given rise to lots of family history researchers, but nobody that I have come accross has mentioned the gold rush connection.
Thank you all again for your help.
