Yes would love to have any information you have on him and his family :)

I am slowly trying to fill in all the blanks and gather as much information I can on the whole family.

Durham / Re: GRIEVESON - Are these different people?
« on: Monday 16 September 24 23:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi

the Grieveson family can get very muddled as there are 2 John Grieveson both married to a Mary and at the same time and in the same area.

I had to recently untangle a bit of mess that someone else had created because they got them all confused.

How to tell them apart is through the census as 1 John Grieveson is born in London and the other in Durham - also their occupations are quite different so that helps too.

Your John Grieveson was born in Durham c1814 and married Mary Heslop in 1836 in Monkwearmouth, Durham

They had the following children:
Margaret born c1837 in Chester-le-Street, Durham
Robert born c1839 in Chester-le-Street, Durham
Jane born c1844 in Pelton Fell, Durham
Mary born c1846 in Pelton, Durham
John born c1848 in Pelton, Durham
William born c1851 in Pelton Fell, Durham
Thomas born c1856 in Pelton died 1930 in Queensland, Australia

They family are very hard to following due to the various different way their last name is spelt and due to the other family who seem to have lived in the same area and who had some children with the same names and even similar ages.

I've managed to separate them all so far until  more can be found out for certain.

Hope this helps

Durham / Re: Mary Grieveson - Chester le street - IS COUSIN TO WHO?
« on: Monday 16 September 24 23:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi  I think I can help you with this as it's part of my family

Mary Heslop born 1817 (married to John Grieveson is the cousin to Dorothy born 1830 who married James Bambrough.

Mary Grieveson (Mary Heslop's daughter) born in 1846 is a 1st cousin once removed or something like that to Dorothy.

So yes they are related.

Hi SorKir

Nice to meet another person researching this family.

Can I ask which one of William's children are you descended from?

The correct tree for this particular BAMBROUGH branch is as follows

His parents were

2)    William Bambrough
born 25 Dec 1851 Houghton le Spring, Durham (this has also been confirmed on the census's for 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901)
died 1916 Houghton le Spring, Durham
occupation on all the census was coal miner

he married Ann SWALLOW in 1873 at Houghton le Spring, Durham.  And had 7 children

Williams parents (and James's grandparents) were:

3)    james BAMBROUGH
born 31 Jul 1825 Houghton le Spring, Durham (as confirmed by the census for 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1881)
died 1888 in Houghton le Spring, Durham

He  married to Dorothy HESLOP in 1850 in Chester le Street, Durham.  They had 10 children

This James's parents were:

4)    William BAMBROUGH
born 4 May 1794 in Washington, Durham (as confirmed from the census for 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871)
Died 1876 in Hetton le Hole, Durham

He married Margaret THOMPSON in 1819 in Houghton le Spring, Durham.  They had 7 children.

William married a 2rd time to a Elizabeth USHER in 1866 in Houghton le Spring, Durham.  (also confirmed from 1871 census)

William's parents were:

5)  John BAMBROUGH and Elizabeth (maiden name as yet unknown)
They had 3 children, all born in Washington, Durham.
John died in 1833 in Houghton le Spring, Durham and Elizabeth died in 1849(yet still to be confirmed)

As yet no birth or marriage date has been found for John.

Cornwall Lookup Requests / Re: Marriage lookup for Thomas TONKIN and Ann DAVIES
« on: Wednesday 14 April 21 22:58 BST (UK)  »
thanks :)

I looked at the Cornwall OPC database - they don't seem to include parents names on the marriages - or not on any of the ones for me.

maybe they weren't recorded on the church records ?

I"ll put her on hold for now

Northumberland / Re: James THOMPSON (Mariner) and his family
« on: Saturday 10 April 21 12:43 BST (UK)  »
there are 10 possible James Thompson's on the 1841 census that could be him.  Only 1 has a Isabella but her age is off by almost 10 years so could be them but also might not be.

there is another Isabella Thompson death that could match - in Durham in 1855 and her age is right so it's a toss up between this one and the 1850 at the moment.

Sadly with a name like Thompson I think it's going to be very hard to track him down.

thanks so much

I have a possible death - a James Thompson 4 Feb 1851 Durham occupation listed as Master Mariner - this was from the probate records online so haven't yet confirmed if him

there are probably a lot of James Thompson, mariners I would imagine so I know he is going to be super hard to find
