Mayo / Re: Annie O'Malley from Mayo

Great to hear from you! It’s been a very long time since anyone posted on this thread.

My great grandmother was Bridget nee Durkan O’Malley. She was Honor’s sister.

I would love to hear any stories about the family history. I will gladly share any info I have about the Durkans/Durkins if you do not have it and are interested.

I do not have any info on the Durkan family before Martin. But, I do now know where all Honor’s siblings went.

If you would like my email private message me .

Kind Regards

Anne

I had gone through the baptism records on RootsIreland a while back. I had seen the one for Lizzie and thought it was probably correct. They also had Margaret’s baptism 1861.

Their sister Margaret was still with them in 1880, 19 years by then. But by 1892 she wasn’t.  If she married it is a very common name. So I wasn’t able to find her. Many Margaret Dolan marriages in Brooklyn then. But only indexed on family search with no mention of parents.

The 1900 census is so full of errors intentional or otherwise as to be almost useless. Lizzie wasn't younger than John.  She wasn't born in the US. Maybe unlike her brother Thomas she didn't apply for citizenship and that was the reason.

Not sure who the source of that info was. Maybe her younger brother John or one of her nieces. Seems it is probably not accurate. Her nieces Bernadette , Regina and Ann Marie. They lived with her and their father, mother, uncle & aunts

Forgot you asked for this

Not sure what death record you are referring to, but Elizabeth’s headstone says b 1860.  https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/172447977

On the 1870 census when living with her parents and brothers Thomas &John B Elizabeth's age is 11 (so b 1859) 1880 census when living with brothers Thomas & John B age 21 (so also1859] After that same family but the dates for all the siblings jump around even when they don’t move.

It has been my experience that dates on census and death records are often incorrect. I know for a fact the date on my greatgrandmothers death record had her a number of years younger than she was.

Thank you for your replies.

Thomas H Dolan the eldest brother and a wood carver died 21 Jul 1934. He never married and still lived together in Brooklyn with some of his sisters and his brother John Bernard’s family. He, sisters Margaret and Anne and John are buried in the same grave in St John's cemetery.

I actually thought it curious that Their mother Mary was not living with them in 1880 3 months after the death of her husband when their grandmother was. I don’t know what became of the 2 older sisters Mary and Kate after the 1870 census, married, domestics, died ? I can't locate them.

The NYC 5th election district is them in 1870. The mortality schedule 1880 is the correct Bernard as is confirmed by the death record address matching the address of Thomas and his siblings on the 1880 Census. Bernard was a shoemaker. But the death record does not show spouses name only that he was married. Widow and single are struck through leaving married as his status. He was listed as married on both the death record and the 1880 mortality schedule. So That would seem to support the idea that his wife was still alive March 1880.

I was hoping if I could find a death notice/obit it might have more info. I am trying not only to find Mary, but to trace the family back.

I know Bernard’s Father’s s name was Thomas. I do not know his mother’s name.

Does anyone know if there is a place where the people buried in Calvary cemetery are indexed? I know there are millions of people in that cemetery .
