I should have mentioned that the Uncle who was a Ships Mate according to the 1851 Census, name was John Scott (D bef 1881 when his wife is a shown as a widow on census) who had married Janet Duncan. They had one son James (B abt 1837).

June, I have Charles and John Duncans in my extended family tree.

Charles (B 1800 in Kintyre, D 1876 Clyde Bank Cottage, Renfrew) is shown on the 1851 census as being the Superintendant Carpenter of Clyde Trustees Works.  He had a son Charles (b c1837 in Glasgow, according to 1841 and 1851 censuses.  I have no other information on him as he not in my direct line.

Charles (b 1800) also according to 1841 census also had a 7 mth old son named John. He is not listed on 1851 census. John married Mary Pride in 1865 in Renfrew.

More details on this family can be found on my Blog at http://campbeltownduncans.blogspot.com/2015/05/charles-duncan-1800-1876.html

As Skoosh has indicated you could put a query on  the Kintyre form website, but I have had no luck there.  My information has been obtained through the Scotlandspeople website

As a person interested in placenames and their origins, can I suggest you and others who come across placenames (town, stream, etc names) and can not find the placename, even if it is historical (ie the place no longer exists) in either the GeoScience Australia National Gazetteer or a state gazetteer, send you information to the relevant State geographical / place names Board / Committee. Contact details can be found at http://www.icsm.gov.au/cgna/cgna_members.pdf

The National Gazetteer is an annual compilation of all state/ territory gazetteers.  Whereas State / Territory Gazetteers are mostly updated each night.  State / Territory boards / Committees have very limited staff to research placenames and are not proactive in their research.

When submitting a placename, I suggest you include: the source of the placename (ie map, trove reference, etc), LGA, latitude / longitude (or easting / northing)(if known), a description of the feature and where the feature named was located, and any historical information you can provide.

I am a member of the Australian Placenames Survey which is a small group of people attempting to collect the origin of all Australian placenames.  We work in conjunction with state/ territory placename boards.

Hi Paul
Have you been onto the Victorian Govt Earth Resources "GeoVic" mapping website?  It shows "Mines and Mineral occurrences", but not "Hard Hills".  Around Buniyong  it includes mines Scotchmans Lead / Scotchmans Co.

Alternatively, if you know the publication in which the place "Hard Hills" appears, you could get the Vic Mines Library to check if that publication has a map showing the location.

Further:
there is an Ancestry Tree "Lockerbie" which lists Charles Duncan and Barbara McLeod and their children.  I put some questions to the tree owner, but to date I haven't heard back from the Tree's owner.

Thank you ev and Anne for your quick replies.
My census info is from the ScotlandPeople website from which I get most of my Scottish information.
1851 Census - Oops, missed the last 2 entries (Anne 8 and Charles Angus - Nephew, 1)
1861 Census - some interesting points
> that Charles Angus is now a grandson,
> his 1 Jan 1850 Birth Registration shows his parents as Andrew Lockerbie and Isabella Duncan,
> Andrew and Isabella married on 2 Sept 1848, but Isabella is listed on the 1851 census as Unmarried.
1871/81 Census
Anne, I don't believe Mary Duncan, grand daughter, is the daughter of Robert and Marta.  I believe she was born on 29 Dec 1865 to John and Mary (nee Pride) Duncan at Renfrew  (according to Birth Register).  John & Mary married in Renfrew on 24 Feb 1865 (Scotlandpeople).
1891/1901 Census - I agree with your summary

I have searched ScotlandPeople for OPR & Catholic births using just surname "Duncan" and parents names "Charles" and "Barbara" for the period 1825 and 1855 over all Scotland with nil relevant results, hence my starting this thread.

Don and Anne, thank you for the suggestions of nonconformist church and NAS.  Something to add to my to do when I next visit the UK.

Lanarkshire / Charles Duncan family of Clyde Bank Cottage
« on: Monday 12 October 15 08:14 BST (UK)  »
Hello
I usually post on the Australia board, but I currently have a roadblock in Scotland.

I have found various census records showing Charles and Barbara Duncan and family residing at Clyde Bank cottage from 1841 to 1881.  The following is the 1851 census listing:

Charles Duncan, Head of family, Mar(ried), M(ale),  aged 51; Superintendant Carpenter of Clyde Trustees Works; (Born) Kintyre, Argyllshire;
Barbara Duncan, Wife, Mar, F, aged 49; (b) Kelso, Ayrshire
Isabella Duncan, dau(ghter), Unm(arried), F, aged 28; (b) Greenock, Refrewshire
Elizabeth Duncan, dau, Unm, aged 26; Dress Maker, (b) Glasgow, Lancarkshire
Janet Duncan, dau, Unm, aged 24; Dress Maker, (b) Glasgow, Lancarkshire
Robert Duncan, son, Unm, aged 20, Journeyman Engineer, (b) Glasgow, Lancarkshire
James Duncan, son, Unm, aged 18, Engineers Apprentice, (b) Glasgow, Lancarkshire
Charles Duncan, son, Unm, aged 13, School Boy, (b) Glasgow, Lancarkshire

My problem is I am unable to find any Birth records on ScotlandPeople for the children.
My existing research can be found on my blog at http://campbeltownduncans.blogspot.com.au/2015_05_01_archive.html

Any suggestions were to continue my research would be appreciated.

According to the A$$$.com -   NSW ER 1936 for Subdivision of Coonabarabran  (not that far from Narrabri) lists:
Ethel May Leonard (Home Duties), Jack Clarence Leonard (Labourer) and Leslie James Leonard (Labourer) all living at Back Creek, Ulamambri  (to the east of Coonabarabran)

Jack appears on later ER as well

Australia / Re: Presbyterian Section 6E at Rookwood Cemetery, Sydney

I have no idea, but suggest it was originally a picnic area within the cemetery.  Not sure if you realise that Rookwood is the largest cemetery in the southern Hemisphere. Over 300ha / 877 acres. Prior to WWII the Cemetery had 5 railway stations.

The following is an extract from http://www.sydneyghosttour.com/blog/category/rookwood
"Rookwood was designed as a Victorian era garden where the living went to spend time with the dead, with gardens, flowers, rows of trees, pavilions to shelter from the sun and have picnics in, streams and fountains."
