Hi, Just wondering if anyone cud help me as regards a house in Ladywell, a period house, up a lane opposite the water garden. It is the house on the right.  It is boarded up, in disrepair. Cud anyone tell me the name of the house and the history of the house.

Thank you :)

Hi Tracey8 im orginally from thomastown i know that the Hoynes family lived the for many years i think until quiet recently.

If that's the house i think it is (on the right as you drive up that lane, and has a large lawn in front of it, and overlooking the town, it's called "Abbey View") it has been vacant for a few years and the last owner was the Brennan family from Dungarvan, Co.Kilkenny (who inherited from Paddy Kennedy who owned and lived in it for a long time) and it was sold a few years ago and hasn't been lived in since!
It was put up for sale again by the new owners a couple of times but was never sold as far as i know!
Is that any help?

You seem to know a huge amount about Ladywell/Thomastown.   Any info on the Deegan family?   Or Jim and Peg Duffy?

Do you mean Jim and Peg Duffy from Kilkenny?
My mother was Deegan!

If you can locate the house on the old OSI maps it might be possible to find out it's original name and some details on the old owners (as in during the 19thC).

   See Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny

Select the historic options on the right to see older maps. The 25" maps are from around 1890, the 6" maps from 1820 to 1840.

Shane

p.s. could it be the House named Mill view on the maps ?

Hi,

The name of that house is: "Abbeyview"

Sorry, newbie on here so not sure if this is the correct way to do this!
Hope this helps
