Hello NettieS

Re lost Grandmother
No she never married in the 1911 cenus she was living with her brother and his wife.I might add in the 1901 census it was noted she was deaf and dumb I know nothing after 1911 only that she died in 1961

AS a new member I have been trying to find out my mother place of birth I have her birth cert and guess what she was born at 26 Howard rd and stayed in st elizabeths home although her mother lived in Folkestone,as you say very confusing  ,as other members have said it seems st elizabeths was a home for wayward girls etc and howards rd was where they had there babies. My next search is to find out what happened to my grandmother and my mother before I was born

Hi as a brand new member not sure on how to start this search.I am trying to find out what St Elizabeths home was for and 26 Howards rd Upton park I think it was for unmarried mothers but the link with 26 Howard rd is confusing.
My mother was born here in 1912 although her mother (my grand mother) was sent to St Elizabeths home from an address in Folkestone Kent.I found this on the birth cert
St Elizabeths home was in Green St Upton Park (West Ham) does anyone know what happened to the home, the connection with 26 Howards Rd and are the any records on what happened to the babies when they were born.
Thanks
