Ah thankyou Morganllan
I now see you did a correction. That's where the confusion was then when I was discussing with Jerry...as there's Betws near Ammanford. Jerry was convinced it is Aberystwyth for the one near Maesteg (spelt Bettws, but with Betws Road running through it lol....no wonder the Welsh confuddled the English :P), but I'll try Swansea first...much easier to Swansea than Aberystwyth...plus I think maybe higher chance you are correct :P
Cheers, Mark.

Hi Gill
Just posting this to let you know that it's possible the Parish records are at Aberystwyth (near the University or something) and so there's two places I/we will need to check out. This was told to me by one of the men who I do an over 50s IT training session for on Wed in Aberdare. He has traced his descendants back to around 1600s :).

PM me (coz quite rightly we shouldn't link emails on a forum) when you get back from your holiday and have time maybe can give you my phone number or something if you really are up for making some time for this :)

Best wishes, Mark.

Hi Gill :D

Will try to remember to when you return, but if I forget my email is (*) (yes LL is for Llewellyn :p).

My Grand Auntie did much on John Johns' family tree (basically is complete up to like 5 years ago ... she passed on a couple of years ago). She kind of tasked me with tracing back further than John, but I've been a bit slack on it  :-\

The link Morganllan provided says that

"Parish registers prior to 1706 were lost when the place they were kept caught fire. "  :-[

But you never know until you go, so definitely would like to try and track down any records.

Enjoy your holiday!

Warm wishes, Mark.

Just stumbled across this with my Auntie and Uncle here today as we were looking for the church where Llewellyn and Mary John are buried. I had already visited the Church and City Ganol Farm.

One of Llewellyn and Mary's children was John John who emigrated to Australia and changed his name to John Johns. He is my Great Great Grandfather.

St Davids Church in Bettws is where Llewellyn and Mary are buried and I do even have more information if this is still wanted. The farm was sold a few years ago and I think the old farm house may be demolished now, though I did see it still there in 2005 and not far from there are John family decendents still in Bettws.

I live near Aberdare now (moved from Australia in 2006) and would like to visit the church again to check on old records and surely would enjoy company if any decendents of Llewellyn and Mary would like to join me :D

The attached pic is me next to there graves :)

Peace, Mark.
