Hi Barnaby,

My grandfather was in Hertfordshire Constabulary before and after WW1. How would I go about finding out his service records?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Actually, there was a flour mill in Hertford. Could this be a connection???

Maybe he did work at the local brewery then!? Thanks, Cati!

Thank you for replying to my post. Very intriguing. I wonder where that would take place in or around Hertford, Hertfordshire. It doesn't sound like it would have anything to do with the brewing industry. There is a brewery in Hertford, McMullens, where most of the family worked then as Maltsters.

Thank you. Jane

Di,

Thank you very much for your messages. My dad has told me that his dad was in the police force. My grandfather died of TB in 1959.

I will private message you as I would be very interested in further infomation.

Kind regards,

Jane

Hi,

Does anyone know what an Oil Cake Trimmer did in 1911?

Thank you,

Jane

We both reached the same conclusion! Thank you. I didn't previously know that Ellen existed!

I think that Ellen moved out and became a servant!

Thank you. That's most helpful. It's very interesting, because the 1911 census does not mention Ellen. Did she move out and marry?

I think that this could be the family - the names Henry, Alfred and Fredrick have all shown up before. William (Head) and Jessie also had at least a further five children before the 1911 census.

Thank you for your help.

Jane
