Completed Census Requests / Re: 1871 Ilkley, Yorks SMITH

Hi criggy,
Thanks for your reply.
John Smith was my great grandad.  My grandad was Joe Smith, who after the first world war moved to Manchester.  He married Annie Blundell and had six children, the oldest of whom was my dad Joseph Smith born on Queens Avenue Near Old Trafford cricket ground.  I was born in Stretford but only lived there for a year.
Have you visited Addingham?   My dad took me there and we found Thomas Smith's grave along with 5 I think of his children who died young.  I have the information somewhere. May be able to send info via another route.  Only just joined rootschat last week after finding your request of many years ago.  I googled Thomas Smith - stonemason and up came your rootschat.  Couldn't believe my eyes!
I visited Blackpool and St Annes the other day enroute to the Lake District for a short break and found John Smith's grave in St Annes Churchyard.  I have a photo of John Smith with his first wife Annie Wilkinson and their young children around about 1900.

 Best wishes    Hari

Completed Census Requests / Re: 1871 Ilkley, Yorks SMITH

Hi there

I would very much like a look up of the 1871 census of Ilkley if possible please for the following.

Thomas Smith aged 34 born Carlton, Skipton, Yorks
Elizabeth Smith born Addingham aged 31
Their children were John Smith aged 5 & Edie Smith aged 11 months both born in Ilkley.

I have the above information from the census but the source (Whafedale web site) did not give the reference no. or Thomas Smith's occupation.

I am almost sure that the above is the John Smith I am looking for. My John Smith was supposedly born in Addingham but I'm beginning to think he was actually born in Ilkley then moved to Addingham. His father was Thomas Smith a mason. I am hoping that the above Thomas was also a mason in the 1871 Ilkley census which would mean I was on the right track.

Regards

criggy

Hi criggy,
I also have the Thomas Smith of Addingham (stonemason ) and his son John Smith who later moved to Blackpool and St Annes.  Which of John Smiths children are you descended from?  I have got stuck with Thomas Smith from Carlton and can't get any further back.
