Yes, Sinann, I wondered about the wording of the marriage report as well. George Maunsell
of Milford died in 1835. There is a news report of 11th Sept. 1830 in the Dublin Evening Post
noting that George Maunsell, late Collector of Limerick has debts and schedule of same may be
applied for. I have not read the complete article on FindMyPast only the extract. It appears he has
resigned from his position as Collector on a yearly pension of 1,500 pounds which reverted to the
Crown upon his death. So it is possible that he left Limerick prior to this news report of 1830
possibly around the time of Mary's wedding and the wording refers to this. The question needs
to be asked as to how much credence should be given to a newspaper report and its wording.
It is far more convincing to have church records that confirm or refute any hypothesis.
It would appear that his money issues may have persisted as his will of 1834 retracts earlier
settlements of 6,000 pounds for each of his children and reduces that amount to 2,000 pounds,
so he was not completely penniless! Considering that the Griffiths valuation of Milford House,
his residence, was only 25 pounds his monetary assets were considerable. He jointly owned
a private bank in Dublin in partnership with 2 of his brothers.
