Thanks Doddsie4, that is the answer to another question.
My friend knew of an Aunt "Lena", now we know that her name was probably Selina, after her mother. It just makes it that more difficult tracing your family when you only ever heard of  them by their nicknames.

I too have no clue as to the letters after Frederick Snr's name - another mystery!
Thanks again,
Milly Mac.

Thank you, wee mammy, Isobelw, Brigidmac and Forfarian.
You have all been very helpful.
It does seem that Frederick Littlejohn Ross is the man I am looking for.
I can now give this information to my friend and see where he wants to go from there.
He will be in Edinburgh and Glasgow for several days, so, I think I will suggest a hunt through the archives.
If anyone can give me any more information to help him in his search, it would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks again for your help so far.
In awe of your knowledge,
Milly Mac  :)

Scotland / Help please
« on: Saturday 25 February 17 07:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I am researching for a friend who has limited details of his family. He is travelling from Australia to Scotland later this year and is hoping to find some of his family history.
His father was Frederick Ross b.29/11/1925 Scotland d. 28/9/1989 Australia.
His Grandfather was also Frederick Ross , married to Celina (or Selina) Kelly both born in Scotland.
The only other information he has is that his father emigrated to Australia with siblings -   Elizabeth, Jess, Lena and Andrew.
Where do I start?
I have tried to look up marriages in Scotland but couldn't locate him or his wife.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Wow! Thanks Joe, it was a wonderful surprise to see photos of my Great Grandparents for the first time.
Can you give me a contact to Rozanna Lilley to thank her too?
I take it that she is a cousin of yours.
Best wishes,
Louise.

Hi Millsie,
The name Teasdale has unexpectedly 'popped up' in my family history in WA too.
My Gt Grandmother Ada Maud Florence Hall was the daughter of James Anderton Hall and Lillian Helena Bruce. However her death notice in the paper was listed as "daughter of Mrs Teasdale".
I have no idea when or where the name was changed but would be interested to know if we have a link somewhere.
Happy Hunting,
Milllie Mac   :)

Australia / Re: How many Convicts are you descended from?
« on: Wednesday 28 January 15 23:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Bellejaz,
I am 5th generation Aussie and descended from two Convicts, John Nicholls was a First Fleet convict (1788 - ship - Scarborough) who married Ann Pugh, also a convict. After his term was served he ended up with a rather large land grant for farming which is now Parramatta NSW.
They had numerous children, I'm still tracing some of them.  :)
Kind Regards,
Milly Mac.

Canada / Re: J. A. "Jock " McNeil

Hello,
Thank you for that information - none of which was known to me.
Interestingly, my Dad was a despatch rider in WWII and retained an interest in motorcycles all his life, restoring BSA's and many others.(In Australia).
I don't know if these two McNeill's are related - I'm still plodding away at the family tree, but I will file it away for future reference.
Thanks again.
Kind Regards,
Milly Mac.

Cornwall / Looking for Trembath/Pearce family
« on: Tuesday 19 November 13 10:19 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me to verify if John Trembath and Edith (Pearce) Trembath did indeed migrate from Cornwall to Australia? I am only guessing at the time frame- possibly early to mid 1800's.
I have no other details and I am not even sure that Cornwall is the place to be looking - just vague family stories. - But worth a shot!
Thanks,
Milly Mac  ???
