Family History Beginners Board / Re: Books of Interest to everyone

your right should of relised, sorry for my posting

Hello familyman,

No need to apologise 8) How many people can afford books these days ??? I find that scouring charity shops for books of local interest can be very rewarding and well worth
the effort. People sometimes donate real treasures to their local charity shop.

Christopher

also try Abe Books.co.uk. They are very cheap, even including P&P

hi,
There are 4 images on www.findmypast.co.uk in British Army Service records for a Frederick Munton born 1884, Coventry.
He served in india and was discharged in India on 31-10-1911
It mentions his marriage to Edna Ann Danby.
 Cathy :)
Modified  sorry  I meant Edith Ann, not Edna,

WOW!!! You two girls have taught me more about my relatives than I have ever known. Thankyou so much. I really do aoppreciate it. I shall try and . info, and send it to my sister who also is 'in the dark'. :)

This is a possibility for Edna Danby's birth:
Mar 1913
Denby  Edna  (mother's maiden name Windle) GRO ref:  Burnley  8e 297

Cati

Edna Danby was my dads mother who at the time of his birth was Edna Munton, living in Simla, India with grandad serving in armed forces there. I think the one you have found is not the right one. She had a sister called Agnes, Danby who married a ???? Dodsworth.

Hello -- and welcome!  :D

Do you have ANY surviving older relatives at all that you could talk to who could fill in at least some names for you, to get you started on your tree?  If they live a long way from you, you could always write to them/phone them to explain your interest and see if they would be willing to help you with what they know.

I am 72, and have only one living ,older relative in USA. I have stated all I know about my relatives. I cant even find myself!!  :o

Thanks for replies. Yes, my parents are both dead. My mother was Jeannie Smith, born 12/9/1913. She was born at Penwortham, Lancashire. She died in Bridlington Oct,at 82 years old.

My dad was born in Simla, India, when his father was in services there. he was born on 29/10.1911. His name was Eric arthur Munton. They married in year 1934 at Skipton, Yorkshire registry office (I think). he died at Nelson, Lancashire 1959.

My mother's mum, was Sarah Lilian Price (I think). She was born about 1897 ish. My grandad was Harry or Henry Smith (lots of them). Not sure where they was born. Earby, near Skipton, Yorkshire I think she was, I dont know about him.

My dad's mother was born in York. Yorkshire as Edna Danby. Dont know when. My grandfather was Frederck Munton, but dont know where he was born. he died at Earby Near Skipton about 1947 ish. She died maybe about 1950's but dont know where.

Sarah Meyer(Maiden name) was my great grandmother on mothers side. (Not sure if this is correct spelling. She died at Laneshawbridge in about 1948/9 ish. She married Mr Price maybe they were married at earby. Skipton Yorkshire

This as as far as I know...I cant find any reference to anyone during my searches.

Thanks for your assistance

I have tried so many times to start my family Tree, but failed to get even a start...I dont think my parents existed!!!!  I have used ancestry.com, and others..not one of them have any of my relatives on their database. Has anyone any suggestions? My mothers surname was Smith...not an easy start I know, but even my dads name isnt there, although that isnt a common one.

Thankyou in anticipation of replies.
