Hi Rod

The following link might also be of help to you.

http://www.archives.tas.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0003/262884/immigration-guide.pdf

There is a publication "Immigrants Recruited by the Launceston Immigration Aid Society 1855-1862" by Kevin Green, but this is very northern Tasmanian based and I couldn't see the names you mentioned in the listings.  Have a look, it might be useful for reference.

Family folklore has passed it down as Tanish but it may be Tainsh.  I hope I will have a better idea once I've seen the death certificate (and marriage certificate) if I can find one.  Thanks for asking Skoosh.

Scotland / Scottish Immigration Society or St Andrews Immigration Society

Looking for information relating to the above society/s or other Scottish based immigration societies which recruited immigrants for Tasmania in the 1850s, together with lists of immigrants, names, occupations, ships, dates, etc.

Regards
Lyn

Thanks everyone for your replies to my post.   Yes Trish, I am in the process of applying for a death certificate now as I too want to know what information is shown on that.  I've just joined this site and was suddenly inspired to put a notice out there on the off chance as Tanish is not a very common name.  Suziq, it's possible the Elizabeth Tanish you listed could be the person, but I will check that against more concrete information once the death certificate is received.  Bearkat, your Elizabeth Tanish may be too early by date, but I discount nothing at this stage.

My next post will be for information relating to the Scottish Immigration Society, possibly known as the St Andrews Immigration Society as I'm trying to trace immigration records to establish the basis for the immigration scheme, list of persons recruited under the scheme and to find her arrival in Tasmania.

Many thanks for your contributions.

Regards
Lyn

Looking for Elizabeth TANISH born c. 1842 emigrated to Tasmania in about 1854 with sister Janet (believed to be aged 23 years).  May have been recruited through Scottish Immigration Society or similar.  Married James Rowland in 1874 in Launceston, 6 children born to Elizabeth and James.  Little information known, happy to answer queries and receive any guidance.

Lyn Houston
