Armagh / Re: Mackin Family
« on: Sunday 10 February 13 07:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hello There - I have a Mary Mackin (plus various spellings of surname) who married Thomas Carroll in about 1837 Ireland.  Thomas was aged about 19 when he married Mary.  When Thomas Carroll died in Gundagai, New South Wales Australia in 1878 he was aged 60 years and had been in New South Wales for about 36 years.  Unfortunately I have not been able to confirm Mary's death to date and when Thomas and Mary and possible children born in Ireland arrived in Australia.  Children born in New South Wales were Thomas born 1845 (died 1862), Edmund/Edward born 1849, Patrick born 1852, Mary C born 1855.  There was also a son James (no birth found in New South Wales) living and one unknown female living at the time of Thomas Carroll's death.  Two  sons and two daughters were also deceased at the time of Thomas's death.  Unfortunatley this is very sketchy information but would appreciate any assistance.

Kind regards
Lincee

Hello Robert,
Thank you for your messages and links.  It is good to see that I am heading down the same path with this family except for finding the elusive James and Emma Taylor.
When Sarah Taylor married James William Summerfield, Sarah was living in the Parish of Armidale although both parents James and Emma (and J.W. Summerfield) were all from Sydney.
I have also in the past had a look at the life and family of Thomas Parnell from information on the internet to find an explanation as to why Sarah might be in Armidale and perhaps why James and Emma were tripping around the state and also I have read the book by Elizabeth Rushen "Single and Free" to find out what was noted on Emma Barden.  It was mentioned in the book that the Sydney Colonial Secretary Alexander Macleay had written a "B" list of the women on the Canton describing them more fully so I am wondering if this "B" list is available to view at the Mitchell Library in Sydney or at Kingswood.  I also had a look at the family tree's of the Bell family on the internet.  When J. W. Summerfield died at Lambing Flat in 1862 James Taylor (informant on D/C) may have been at the gold diggings there because J.W. Summerfield's cause of death: haemorrhage from wound to groin, three weeks prior.  Occupation - gold miner.  I had a look at Trove to see what was happending at that time and the miners were rioting then and several were injured.
Yes I can also understand why the headstone of Edward Taylor has fallen over.  It does look very heavy and Catherine/Katherine Birch's looks a little weather beaten as well.

Hello Robert,

Sorry will continue this message.

In the year 1848 a Catherine Taylor of the Parish of Ashfield who was born 12 February 1845 was baptised 30 January 1848.  Parents James and Emma Taylor.  Abode Ashfield.  James occupation labourer.  Minister F. Wilkinson.

Also in the year 1848 a William Taylor of the Parish of Ashfield who was born 6 February 1843 was baptised 30 January 1848.  Parents James and Emma Taylor.  Abode Ashfield.  James occupation labourer.  Minister F. Wilkinson.

Also in the Parish of Cumberland Hunter's Hill 1855 a John Taylor was baptised 8 October 1855.  He was born 6 October 1855 to James and Emma Taylor.  Abode Hunter's Hill.  His occupation labourer. Minister Rev. George E. Turner.

Therefore I am not sure how may children James and Emma (Barden) Taylor had.  The only other James Taylor and Emma Dowen marrying in NSW was in 1849.

I have been researching Sarah Taylor's family.

I am interested to  find Edward's birth details.

Regards Lincee

Hello Robert,

Thank you for the information.  Do you possibly have a copy of the birth/baptism of Edward Taylor?  Unfortunately my local library did not have the microfilm for the series 158.

There are a few puzzling questions from the other births and I am not sure if they are part of the same family aside from the late marriage of Emma and James.

Sarah Taylor was baptised 4 June 1837 Parish of Richmond Cumberland (born 6 May but no year given).  Parents James and Emma Taylor abode Richmond.  James occupation dyer.  Henry I Stiles Minister.

Robert Taylor was baptised 8 July 1838 Parish of Richmond Cumberland (born 6 June 1838) to Emma and James Taylor.  James Taylor occupation farmer.  Minister Henry I Stiles.

This was the same minister who married Emma Barden and James Taylor but not until 1840 at Church of England Richmond.

Hello Robert,
No I am still no further advanced with finding deaths for both James and Emma Taylor.  The last positive sighting for James was when he was informant on death certificate for son in law James William Somerfield/Summerfield 14 January 1862 at Lambing Flat NSW Australia.
