I think it is the age of the deceased person. This is used when mothers name is not known.
The old indexes used to use the word age before the number for  example  age 73. This was instead of the 3 numbers now used.

Losing an arm usually made the newspapers.
Search Trove using the state/ area he lived in to see what you can find out.

I want to know where people got the notion that Christina had committed suicide? Where did it come from?
The original poster said in her first post on this thread, that it was a family story handed down. They were looking for evidence.
The reply #3 is a link to the inquest findings showing death by suicide.

Do you have other information contradicting this?

Australia / Re: Waupaca, Melbourne Road, Frankston (Victoria, Australia)

An update about Waupaca (in Frankston).

All of the evidence points to Waupaca having initially been a private home about a mile north of Frankston town on the Melbourne Road. At some time - probably during the early 1890s - it probably became a boarding house. I must acknowledge that there is some disagreement about it being a boarding house from members of my family.

Trove has several examples of advertisements that give Waupaca's address as 494 Melbourne Road. This is incorrect. That address was where the first Frankston Post Office was. The best explanation I can give is that letters were not delivered to homes in those days, and people would give the address of the post office where they could pick up their mail.

Thanks for everyone's jelp on this. If I find out any more I will post it.

Peter

Perhaps the house was divided into self contained apartments rather than being a boarding house.

Hi Jennaya
The current theory is that Ernest the acrobat was the son of Hope WHITE and Samuel James FRANCIS.

Sorry, I actually meant Samuel FRANCIS parents. Or perhaps he just Anglicised his name when he came to Australia.

Hi Jennaya
It seems more likely that it is the opposite.  White (Irish) mother and Indian father.  Thanks Dianna

I was referring to the parents of Ernest the acrobat. Do you know who they are?

Thanks Sue.  Also why does this man have such an Anglo/English sounding name.  Doesn't sound at all Indian to me.  Samuel James FRANCIS.

Another Alias situation OR was he brought up by English people.  (Orphanage?? perhaps).

I know so many questions.  LOL

I wonder if he had an English father and Indian mother. I have read articles about men from England taking Indian wives when they were working there.
