Thanks Dave - he did indeed drown, and the jury returned an open verdict as to the cause of death - he led rather an eventful life!
Much appreciated

Hello
Anthony Naylor was also my 3xgt grandfather.  The Devonshire Arms pub was in Church Alley, Bakewell, I believe it's now called Devonshire House.  Anthony's son, Will Naylor (my 2xgt grandfather) was landlord of the pub in the 1890s.
Anthony died in 1872 of blood poisoning and his widow Fanny (nee Bramwell) married Edward Williams.  They moved to Shropshire, and the three youngest sons of Fanny and Anthony moved with them, Charles, Harry and James.  Anthony and Fanny had two older children, Elizabeth and William.
I have more info on this family if you're interested.

 ???

I have abosolutely no dea who Eliza GHERE was/where she was from/who her parents were!  There are no other GHERE entries, so I'm assuming it's a mistranscription!
I have sent off for the marriage cert, so will post again with details.

Thank you - the next problem is the surname - she's the only one listed - so no census returns!  Will have to try some variant spellings!  Thanks for your help!

Travelling People / FLETCHER family, Nottinghamshire

Hoping someone might be able to help!  My 2x great grandmother was Mary FLETCHER, born Mansfield in 1857, daughter of John Fletcher of Farnsfield.  Family oral history tells us that this family were Gypsies, but I can't find any clues in the census returns for John to show this (I'm looking for occupations/names etc)  Frustratingly I can't find a marriage/surname for his wife Eliza.
I know Fletcher can be a Gypsy surname - just wondering if anyone has any knowledge about this family?
Thank you

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Wright- Ketts Hill Bakery
« on: Tuesday 27 March 07 19:28 BST (UK)  »
Hello
I am trying to find out more about the brother of my great grandfather.  His name was George WRIGHT, and he was born circa 1865 in either Horning or Great Yamouth, according to census returns.

My grandmother remembered that he owned a sweet shop on Ketts Hill, Norwich.  I have searched the 1910 directory, and found a WRIGHT at the bakery there, and I'm wondering if this might be him.

I can't find him in the 1901 census- there are so many George Wrights and I don't have enough info to be able to pinpoint him. His mother died in 1873, and he was illegitimate (I don't  know who his father was)  so there isn't any mor efamily I can look for apart from his brother  ???

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can ascertain if this is him at the bakery in 1910.
Thanks
JAnie
