The Lighter Side / Re: Sale of local history items
« on: Thursday 15 February 07 10:15 GMT (UK)  »
The items concerned have been going for quite high prices and all the bidders are private listings. It's impossible to tell how many buyers are involved but it looks that a bidding war is going on.

If any one wants to keep an eye out for items like this, they are listed under

Collectables > Paper & Ephemera > Local Interest/ Topographical

I only receive emails about towns I'm interested in but I usually place messages about them on the relevant rootsweb mailing list.

The Lighter Side / Re: Coronation Day 1953

I remember watching the Coronation on a very small tv screen. It was also the first and last time I tasted sherry.

Does anyone else remember the pictures of sections of the procession published in a comic which could be pasted together to make up the whole thing?

I'm watching all the items this seller has listed just out of curiousity to see if they sell. Some of them have bids from a private buyer. Another dealer?

I only found them because Reepham is on my list of ebay searches along with the names of other towns my ancestors lived in.

I was really looking for photos, postcards or books about the areas concerned.

The Lighter Side / Sale of local history items

Hello all,

Recently, I've seen quite a few "lots" of local history items relating to Reepham in Norfolk. Am I alone in feeling these should be in the hands of the relevant Record Office? They may well have been offered and rejected of course.

If I could afford to buy them all, I would and send them to Norfolk Record Office myself.

I'd be interested to hear what others think about this.

Norfolk / Re: Birth of John Green c 1785 Swannington
« on: Wednesday 27 September 06 17:27 BST (UK)  »
Hello Peter,

I thought a descendant of the Greens would turn up sooner or later as they were quite "productive" shall we say.

I'm descended from Eliza Green b. 1830 who married Watts Austin in 1852 in Swannington. They eventually moved to South Shields, Durham, where their daughter, Eliza Sarah Austin, married my g.grandfather, John Vallack.

Eliza was the daughter of George Green and Frances Tipple m. 1820 Diss. George Green b 1794 was one of the many children of Thomas and Abigail Buck.

I have quite a lot of other information about Thomas and Abigail's descendants and would be interested to hear which line you're descended from.

Hello Dennis,

I've only just seen your message about John Green of Swannington and have a couple of census entries for Swannington in 1851 which may be of use to you.

John Green aged 66 widower, Ag Lab, Born about 1785 Swannington.

John is listed as having a son James, born about 1828 Swannington, aged 23, Ag lab.

You may well have these entries already but I also notice you have the names Buck and Seaman in your list of interests.

I have a Robert Buck and Mary Seaman in the "Green" section of my family tree. These Greens of Swannington are descended from Abigail Buck, daughter of Robert Buck. Are we researching different branches of the same family?

Regards

Thanks for the extra information.

I'd be interested to know if you do find we have a common ancestor in John Brock.

Thanks again for all your help,

Margaret
